My friend (he's 17 if it means anything) has drank a few times before, but he said he's never been really DRUNK, just kinda buzzed. He said he once had 17 shots within like an hour or two (on a relatively empty stomach) and was still only buzzed. (He's also about 6'0" and of average weight.)
Is this possible, to have such a high natural tolerance to alcohol? Or is he full of ****? (I kinda think he's full of it.)

It is possible to have it naturally, but most people have a built up resistance due to continuous consumption of alcohol. I think he might be lying to you about some of his extreme drinks.

It is possible that he has a combination high induced enzymatic oxidation system for alcohol metabolism plus high neurological tolerance. The danger is that instead of slowly getting buzzed, his tipping point is more like a cliff, such that he may be fine one moment and dying the next. So, he may have a poor "built-in warning system" and needs to a lot more careful about drinking in moderation.

At any rate whether he feels or acts drunk or not, if his blood alcohol is above the legal limit, he should not be operating machinery, esp. vehicles.

Ha,no. lol. Not even. High pain tolerance or not. Labor hurts like a MF..... Real contractions are unmistakable and they hurt bad!! They get worse and worse over time. What you 'may' be experiencing is false labor or Braxton Hicks contractions. However,.... having more than 4-5 in an hour. You do need to call your doctor. Just to make sure this is not in fact very early labor.

Yes, it is possible, if you drink alot because your liver makes more of the enzymes that break down alcohol. That is unless you drink so much you poison your liver and STOP making the enzymes.

But 17 shots in an hour? I think he's bragging, or was so drunk he couldn't even notice it when he was falling over.

I once heard a story of an alcoholic who was 65 or 70 and they passed a field sobriety test and then blew a high number like .3o or .35 on the Breathalyzer.

He'd be able to drink me under the table but I have a pretty high tolerance for alcohol and I've had one ever since I started drinking.

It is really bad to drink on an empty stomach. And your friend needs to be really careful to not get alcohol poisoning. Alcohol is a drug, and it can effect different people in different ways. He could have ended up in the hospital, reguardless of how he felt.

I new a guy once who couldn't ever get drunk, he'd make bets with guys about who could drink more and he would wallk away totally sober. It doesn't mean that it wasn't affecting his liver though. He could drink so much it would kill him yet he would never get drunk!
