I am overweight and I did a pharmacy do it yourself test. The diastolic was normal but the systolic was 130 and my heart rate was 101. I dont have insurance so I cant go to the doctor but I would pay to go if this is considered high.

optimal blood pressure is 120/80 but NORMAL parameters are 120-140 / 60-80

so you are fine blood pressure wise. if the number goes above 150 for sbp or over 90 for dbp then call your dr

systolic blood pressure (sbp-the top number) is the heart contracting (the ventricles pushing the blood into the atria-the top chambers of your heart).

Diastolic blood pressure (dbp-the bottom number) is the heart at rest (when the ventricles fill up with blood) if this number is too high-it's of great concern b/c the heart is at rest.

as for the heartrate-it's pretty high but there could be alot of contributing factors.

-being overweight causes stress on your body so your heart needs to work harder to do it's job
-certain medications can cause rapid heartbeat
-stress or anxiety can also cause rapid heartbeat

i wouldn't trust those pharmacy machines totally-they are used alot and abused by kids, teens who feel the need to act stupid and mess with it which could alter how it reads.

call 911 right away if
-you have a racing heart along with dizziness, faintness, changes in vision, or confusion
-you seem overly sleepy
-you have chest pain that radiates down your left arm

as long as you don't have any of those above symptoms you should be fine-but if you haven't had a checkup in a while you should see your dr to have everything checked out

It is close to being high blood pressure but is ok. Also, your heart rate is elevated and that is not normal. You may want to get a check up. Your heart rate and blood pressure may have only been higher only while you were at the pharmacy while taking the test. There can be an emotional factor involved when taking blood pressure and heart rate tests.

Eating less transfats and exercising more are the best natural ways to reduce high blood pressure.

A systolic rate of 130 is still considered to be in the normal range. Your heart rate is a little high; 78 to 80 is normal, but it depends on if you had just exerted yourself or not when you took your heart rate.

There was a change in normal bp statistics last year. The docotor's organizations now consider 120 to be the highest side of normal and that anyone with higher than that should be checked by a medical professional. Your heart rate is way above normal.

Why don't you see if you can go to a free clinic to have it checked and get some recommendations? You could probably find some in your area by calling a local hospital.

You're prehypertensive. You should change your diet, exercise, loose weight etc. Those machines in the pharmacy are not the most accurate.
The preferred medication for uncomplicated hypertension is hydrochlorothiaizide, a very cheap drug.
