Why the dichotomy, and why on your terms??? You certainly have a lack of imagination.

It is lack of presumptuosness on my part, and if there is a higher power, then they understand that my smaller brain would not presume to believe in something for which I had no proof.

Everybody believes the way they want to believe. That doesn't mean that they are cowards or immature. But I have a feeling that there might be a fear behind the choice to not believe in a higher power. That's just a feeling I get. Fear can be a very powerful reason that prevents us from getting past various obstacles in our lives. And I'm just making this as a general statement for everybody. You probably already know that the most intelligent people can make bad decisions and wrong judgment calls. jmho.
