I am a very shy girl, so I have trouble meeting new guys. I really like this guy that is a friend of a friend. He comes up to our work all the time, and hangs out. FINALLY I got up the courage to ask him if he'd like to hang out sometime, like, shoot pool or something. He said, "Shoot pool, sounds fun. Sure!"
So, we are going to go out, but is it a date, or is it just us "hangin out"?

I am pathetic, I know, but I need all the help I can get!!! :P
Thank you!

Technically speaking, at this point of the game it could be what ever you want it to be. Since it's a date that you desire then that's what we'll call it. The important thing here is how will you advance this night into more than just a pool game. Since you seem like your of the slower variety, I'd just concentrate on the both of you having a good time, that more than anything will speak volumes. Assuming the first date goes according to plan, the next step would be some form of verbal communication affirming the obvious and/or your intentions.

P.S. I don't think your as shy as you think you are since it was you who asked this man out on a date?

He will let you believe that he went out just for fun. Take it as a date and after you will get to know him better you will understand what is it exactly. In my opinion men never go out just for hanging I think he will take as a date but study all his moves and you will see it will be a date.

Well, you did ask him to HANG OUT. So he's probably just gonna take it as hanging out...

Unless he really likes you. You should observe what he wear and stuff. If it's better than what he usually wear, then you know he sees the whole hanging out thing as something a little more. Observe his behaviour too.

Have fun.

wait.see if he asks you out again. if he does, does he bring you roses? does he say he misses you? look for the little signs. ask him if you can take he wants to ttak you out again. he will eventually make a move if he lieks you, an dif not, you will have a very good freindship. its a win-win situation.

probably depends on who thinks its a date and who thinks it just hanging out. might be a shy way to say 'lets hang out' instead of go out on a date? dunno. good luck with that peace
