How do you Get a Hand gun liscence and liscence to carry a hand gun in Pennsylvannia????

Why do i need it? Id rather carry a hand gun then a shot gun around first off. I deal with precious metals and gems, and at times i have much more cash on me than i feel comforatble with carrying. Not only that but with how things are getting I would feel safer with a hand gun strapped to my side. I need to know how to go about doing this, can a gun shop get me the liscence? Do i need to go to a municipal building, what?

Before I get dumb comments from anti Gun activists, do you think criminals have a liscense? Guns dont kill, people kill. Are you gonna try and band baseball bats next? A gun is a tool, a very effective one at that.

I would just feel safer with a firearm than a stun gun or can of mace, my life is important to me and i would enjoy keeping it.

Any usefull info would help. Thanks

AMEN, BROTHER! GO FOR IT!
For local legal requirements, call or go by your local or state police office. If they're worth the tax money you're shelling out, they should have printed matter available with just such information, or you could inquire at your local firearms dealer, who should DEFINITELY have it.
For PA requirements and laws for CCW(Concealed Carry Weapons) permits go on-line to http://www.packing.org . This excellent website has ALL the info about CCW in a state-by-state, as well as nation-wide format, and will provide answers to any and all questions you may have on the subject(in fact, your best bet may be to go there FIRST)!

21 or over with no felony record, essentially. PA has some of the best carry laws in the entire country, and I believe the only places off-limits for carrying are K-12 schools & courthouses. As an OH resident, PA also gets a big plus in my book for the fact that nonresidents can get an LTCF in a few weeks through the mail for about 20 bucks.

To own a handgun, you have to be over 21 and pass the requisite background checks. Handguns must be purchased through a licensed dealer. If you want to buy one from an individual, you need to go to a dealer and they can do the paperwork.

You do not need to give any specific reason as to why you want a license other than "self-defense." Call your county's sheriff's office and they can give you the details for the application process, fees, etc. It varies some by county, but basically, you'll fill out the application, you may need to give some personal references, pay the fee and they'll do the background check on you. It used to take about 2-3 weeks for them to process everything. I heard that Washington County is issuing them on the spot now.

You do not have to own a handgun to get a license to carry, and you don't need a license to carry to own a handgun.

And while it's not required by law, I highly recommend that you practice, practice, practice with your gun. You need to know everything about it and make sure that it is 100% reliable. And when you're done with that, practice some more!

In Texas you may desire to take the hid carry path, persist with for a hid carry license and pass the historic past verify, then you pay the cost and with a bit of luck, get your CC/license issued. Shotguns do no longer require a license provided you have a sparkling historic past. you may no longer casually carry a shotgun although yet you may take it to the skeet selection or to the place you hunt. It would desire to be unloaded except you have it at homestead/business enterprise for protecting purposes. The 'unloaded' section has to do with pastime regulations; this manner the sport warden knows you're no longer taking photos from 'the line.' H

As someone who lives in West Philly, and hearing the squad cars go by intermittently- I don't think THAT much is required to own and carry a guy. To legally do so is another matter.

However, I should state that carrying a gun does not generally increase safety in the case of an armed mugging. The issue is that if you're already being mugged, the mugger already has their weapon ready- while yours is not. If you then attempt to ready your weapon, you will tend to increase the likelihood of violence in the encounter. The solution to this would be to carry your firearm openly, unconcealed (reducing the chance of mugging)- but most people do not feel comfortable doing so.
