I celebrate Eidul Fitri almost every year in Jakarta the capital city of Indonesia. In the morning I with all of my family(wife, son, daug
hters and daughter & sons in law and my grandchildren) go to a nearby sport field for praying together. After praying we hear a lecture from the preacher for about 1 hour and then we go back home.At home usually my wife have prepared special dishes at night before Ied Fitri day such as buryani rice with chicken or goat meat, steamed rice covered by coconut leaves, pumpkin or pitcher soup with coconut milk, and some kind of cakes and soft drink. We eat together after we shake hand each other for asking
forgiveness..After that we go to tour neighbours and relatives for asking forgiveness too.At that day we wear the new beautiful clothes. At the neighbour or relative house we are treated almost with same dishes and cakes.
It is our tradition too at the Ied Fitri day or some days before we
vitsit the ancetors tombs for reminding them.

Hi there
The prophet Mohammad did not specify any particular dish to use or speak of it. The spirit of the occasion is in the end of 1 month of fasting for our lord's sake. The celebration at the end of it is called Eidul Fitr. Every nation celebrates that with what it best has in terms of food, entertainment and so on. So dishes are location-specific. Hope that helped you.
We also visit our immediate relatives, relatives and spend time at home with our families or go out with friends. The most explicit form of the celebration is in the smiles of people. Of course, the day starts with not only the (daily) dawn prayer, but also with the Eid prayer 2 or 3 hrs after it.

Eid ul Fitr or "Aidilfitri" in bahasa (Our official language) is celebrated for the whole month of Syawal in Malaysia but the first two days are most celebrated and it is a public holidays. It is widely common to see 'Open House' for within the month.
People living in the cities normally have their annual pilgrimage to their hometowns (referred to as "balik kampung'), to be with parents, relatives and old friends.
Its very fascinating events, we have all our traditional foods and stuffs served during the occasion. In Malaysia there is a mixed cuture thus you may found that Childrens and old folks are given gifts of money, in small green envelopes, as what Chinese is practicing during the Chineses new year.
What else I can say.. its an enjoyment events.

Idul Fitri is a very very special day in Indonesia... Usually several days before, we get back to our home town where all relatives gathered. We call that 'MUDIK'. Mudik is a pretty challenging thing to do, because the road is usually jammed. The traffic is crazy! We can take 13 hours jouney while in normal condition is only 8 hours. Phew...tiring enough.
Our special dish is 'ketupat', steamed rice wrapped with coconut leaves. The shape is cube. It served with 'Soto Ayam', kinda chicken curry.
But the most special thing is that we can meet our family and relatives, and forgive each others fault. How sweet....

To many Malays in Malaysia & Singapore, Eid Idul Fitri is celebrated thru' out the month, which is utterly INCORRECT. Their concept is dat since u fast for a whole mth, then the celebration is oso for whole mth.. wat about the ladies who wud miss out at least a week of the fasting mth? do dey celebrate Eid for 3 wks only...
Anyway, we start off the day doing the mass prayers, seek forgiveness from elderly family members (dats the most emotional part where tears will flow over the cosmetics, we wonder why put on cosmetics in the 1st place), eat traditional food e.g. ketupat (small packets (made from woven coconut leaves) of packed rice, rendang (stewed beef cooked in lots of spices and coconut milk), traditional cookies (pineapple tartlets, peanut stuff cookies, etc..
Well, basically its a day to EAT and forget about your diet plans and be merry. But, we oso need to remember that there are pple who are less fortunate than us...
