i would personally never do that. I am russian, but i never ever speak russian in the presence of people who don't understand it, especially at a party.
I have met lots of people who speak their own language in a company, i think that some just don't realize how rude it is. I HATE standing with a silly smile very much when a company is speaking their own language and i have to be there, without knowing even the point of the conversation. I understand how bad you feel.
But maybe he was talking to friends who don't know english very well, so this can be forgiven somehow? Or maybe he was telling some spanish jokes that are impossible to put into english? Ask him to explain himself. Because next time if he behaves the same way there would be no point for you to go with him to the party like this, you would just waste your time...

I think it is very rude, unless his friend only understands Spanish. If there are people around that can't understand what he is saying, and they are part of the group, they should try to communicate in the language that either everyone knows, or that most people know, while others sort of translate on the side.

He is wrong. He was very disrespectful and rude. When u're in a group of people you should speak a language that everyone understands.

Depends on the size of the party. If it's a very large group, then your boyfriend may have a point. Not everyone in the room has to be part of the same conversation all of the time.
If, on the other hand, it's just three or four of you, then, yes, you are right.

why not try to learn a little Spanish that could also be seen as a curtsy to show your boyfriend you are interested in him although i must say it is rude what he did! and if he continues to do despite you telling him that you find it rude then he is saying something that you shouldn't hear and that should make you think if you want to be with someone like that ?

It is rude and causes you to not be included. I was at a wedding once and seated with a group of my husbands relatives and I was the only one that did not speak their mother tongue. They all knew how to speak english prefectly well...but didn't. I sat there like an idiot not being able to contribute.

Sorry to say , It is VERY rude and disrespectful to you and the other people at the party..
If he really wanted to speak with his friends he should have excused himself and dealt with it outside or in another room.
But to bluntly laugh and joke about people in front of there faces, is sickening to me.
He really didn't care about you or your friends.. .that is the point here.
No matter what excuse he brings to the table. Poor upbringing and manors.

its rude. its just like whispering into one person's ear when you are a group of 3 people.
me and my family usually speak in english, when we're talking about the helper. or something she musn't know.
so take a wild guess, the jokes he's telling in spanish might just be about you and your other guests.
