all the cars are good in this range. but there are three brands leads the car market
1. MARUTI - Alto, within your range you will get a fully loaded car.( most fuel efficient(around 14-16 kmpl with a/c), very good engine performance, good resale value, and very good sales after service) note: you can get maruti zen and vagon- R also within 4 lakhs but you will not get the fully loaded one. maruti zen and and vagon-R you can compare with santro .engine is more powerfull then alto
2. Hyundai Santro Xing -you will get the almost fully loaded verson
in your budget. its a good combination of style, performance space and safty, milage( arond 12-14 kmpl with a/c) good resale value and large service network like maruti. its a very good car for indian roads.
3. Tata Indica - you will get a fully loaded verson good design ,style
safety, and space but poor engine perfomence milage ( around 10-12 kmpl with a.c.)has a good resale value but not as much as hyundai or maruti
( all the milage written above is in city drive with a/c)
advice : test drive a two year old model before you buy a car , old car will give you the real picture of the car)

good cars in the range of 3-4 lakhs are
maruti alto
maruti swift
hyundia santro xing
Among the above, the most fuel efficient is maruti alto with an average of min.14 km per litre(with a.c.)
Also the santro xing is good as technology wise it is better than alto and will be better in the long run and has better air conditioner.
on the other hand, the maruti swift is a little expensive but most of the people are preffering it because of its extra features.it gives an average of min.11 km per litre with a.c.

go for a Santro
on highways, go for Tata Indica Diesel with Turbo. This will give you a superb performance on highways (not present in Santro or Wagon R).
you can also opt for a second hand Accent CRDI
swift (close to 5 lakh)
if u want fuel effecient then indica diesel

Only a hatchback can be bought in your budget. So Indica, Alto K10 and Santro will fit in your budget. All three are good successful models from the reputed manufacturers having good after sale services. But mind you... hatchbacks don't have good luggage space. If you can stretch your budget a bit more you can go for the Tata Indigo CS which is not expensive and has a separate boot to take care of your luggage. Make up your mind and go for the one which suits u more... Enjoy yourself...Drive safe.

First Identify your needs and then choose the car. I mean, you want a car which gives best mileage or the one which gives moderate average and also comes at a lower cost.
Indica XETA will give less mileage but also comes at a much cheaper price. You need to work hard to strike a balance between your requirements and the available features of the car and the budget.
