is tuna safe for my pregnunt wife?

Alaska salmon is probably safer bc Alaskan waters are less polluted (no such thing as no pollution, they've even found some at the South pole). The worst are tuna steaks which are high in mercury. The canned tuna are better (smaller fish and lower in mercury) but there is still mercury in it. The FDA recommends no more than one small can per week for a pregnant woman but it's probably safer to not eat it at all.

It's depends on what type of tuna. Red tuna has very high mercury content and therefore your wife should avoid it. In terms of white tuna, I am not sure, which means you probably want to do some research.

People who are pregnant are not supposed to eat tuna due to the levels of Mercury in it. For a healthy, human it should be just fine, but it is said to be dangerous to unborn babies. Don't take any chances, Mercury is a very dangerous metal.

When I was pregnant, my Dr. told me no "Albacore" tuna at all and to limit my tuna consumption to no more than one can of "light" tuna per week. All of this due to Mercury levels.

within reason yes, and it depends if it is canned or fresh, fresh I would suggest 1 x 2 weeks, you should concentrate on fresh water fish or any "non deep water"

Once a month I would say from what I have read if she MUST have it; but, I wouldn't take any chances.
Can you ask the doctor or midwife who is treating her ???

they say that white fresh fish is the best. that's all i had when i was prego. caned fish i never liked so i say no. ask your dr.
