is that possible?

i'm currently tapering off of the drug lamictal, which i was using for mood disorder. since i started weaning off of it i haven't been able to sleep well. i have to get up for class in five hours and i've been tossing and turning for over an hour. partially, i'm sure, due to the fact that my stupid roommate keeps her lamp on. nonetheless, one of the side effects of lamictal is insomnia, but mostly in patients with epilepsy (i.e. not me). i've never had this problem before, but it's been really bad within the past few days, which is how long i've been coming off the lamictal.

I WISH I COULD FALL ASLEEP RIGHT NOW!

Has your doctor started to give you some other drug while shes weening you off Lamictal? I remember having some pretty sleepless nights when my doseage was off for depakoe. If you can't fall asleep, do something restful--like read a book (no not a text book) or listen to music with headphones. I've also found that Sleepy Time Tea really is a big help to get to sleep. For your roomate leaving her lamp on, maybe you should get a face mask. I've seen some pretty ones at accessory stores that don't cost much. Good luck

Both medications are in the SSRI classification of drugs: SSRIs (Serotonin Selective Reuptake Inhibitor) .Sexual dysfunction is a common side effect of SSRIs, occurring in more than 30% of patients. The most common side effects when taking SSRIs include headache, nausea, somnolence (drowsiness), weight/appetite fluctuations, changes in sexual behavior and increased feelings of anxiety or depression. These side effects are mostly present during the initial 1-4 weeks while the body adapts to the drug. It is well documented that SSRIs can cause various sexual dysfunctions such as anorgasmia (inability to reach orgasm), diminished libido (sex drive) and erectile dysfunction or difficult/premature ejaculation in men. Such side effects have been found present in between 41% and 83% of patients responding to physician inquiry. These side effects occasionally disappear spontaneously without discontinuing use of the drug, and in most cases resolve themselves after stopping taking the SSRI. Have you ever tried any medications that are not SSRI's? You should discuss this with your doctor

The light issue. If you don't have an eye-shade, I suggest you buy one. Til then, make a blindfold out of a scarf or other piece of cloth. Light really keeps me awake too.
Really try focusing on your breathing. Get comfy. Put on your blindfold. Think about relaxing every muscle, one muscle at a time. Focus on your breaths in and out.

Yes it is possible. You should be tapering it slowly over 2-week period and hopefully under the advice of your health care provider. Your body is trying to adjust to not having the drug.
