Most or all religions come from the desert is what i've been told by a few people. Isn't religion the biggest scam of all? to keep some sort of social norm among people? What if you die and that was just it, dust to dust? Don't you think religion does more harm than good, but than again we can't blame religion , just the people who manipulate it and use it as a pawn...like Republicans and Terrorist...lol..thats what they have in common.

The first thing to consider is that religion is not a scam. It is a beautiful thing and a very important part of people's lives. It has brought so much to this planet still at the same time it has taken so much. You only have to type religion into google to find all the articles about the manipulation and hidden knowledge. It is a fact that many religions have been crafted to suite the desire of the hirer ach. But the point is that the basic faith and belief in a god has always been the basis and no matter how corrupt the church is and will always remain. The concept of a god gives people hope when they have none.
The Bible is in my opinion is a book of stores. They can teach you a lot but it's your call what you make of it. (many will disagree) just remember it has been translated through many different languages and cultures before it has made it into western culture. and like the law many people interpret it to suit their own agenda. I think the most important thing when looking at religion is not to study the beliefs and philosophies but more so to study the people who are teaching and in control of them.
I feel the most important thing when comforting a religious person about belief is to look at how much they give. What is more important to them? Raising money for charity so a starving child can eat or trying to convert people to their religion. A true Christian (or which ever belief) will lead by example and give all they can. By doing so they will show their way of life most pure and will convince people to take on their belies with out even asking them to do so. Is this not what Jesus Christ did.

The Bible supports your contention that after this life, that is it. Gen 3:19 "In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return." Eccl 9:5 " All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in the grave, the place to which you are going." Eccl 9:6 "Their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun."
Isa 26:14 "They are dead; they will not live. Impotent in dead, they will not rise up." Just like you said, religion is not to be blamed, rather it should be the people that manipulates religion in order to fulfill their self-serving needs. The teachings of God and his commandments form the foundation of the laws that govern every form of society known to man. Thou shall not murder, thou shall not steal, thou shall not commit adultery, thou shall not bear false witness... imagine a society without a set of laws to protect its citizenry from the abuses of the more powerful, to instill some form of peace and order and what you get is a chaotic society where anarchy prevails, where the rule of the jungle reigns supreme. Not much of a life, don't you think so?
