Some cats are attention addicts... some cats are more independent. I guess you got one of the mush-mushy ones (I love 'em - but I knwo they can be a bit bothersome sometimes). If you cannot be with this kitty all day, then yes, your best tack is to get him a playmate (another kitty). Oh, if you do, get another MALE. Two neutered males get along better than one male and one female together.

You just got this cat a week ago. He is just learning the ropes so to speak in his new house. He follows you and asks for attention from you so much because he wants to please you and the whole situation is new for him. I have found that Bach Essences (they are found in the Health Food Store) are real good. I'm sure the pharmacist can recommend the Essence you need, I would try the calming essence - Rescue Remedy. Then for a companion, yes by all means get him a companion. If the companion is neutered and he is neutered everything will be fine. If one or both are not neutered you will have cat fights and spraying.

You could, if you want too, get another cat as a companion for him. Try to pick another kitty out that is close to the age of the kitty you have now. As far as bothering you, he loves you and wants to be with you. Cats look at us like we are their mothers. They usually bond first thing with the person who will take care of them every day. He probably will change a little after his neutering, you just have to wait and see. Getting another kitty is a good idea, then, he might leave you alone until it's feeding time or play time. But, remember, they can't talk, instead they use body movements and vocal sounds to show their love for their human. Good luck, I hope this helped out a bit!

This is normal. Your cat will calm down after he is neutered. He probably has alot of hormones in his system. I would not get another cat because this can cause territory issues (peeing on floor).

Wow. Usually people complain because their cats ignore them. I'm sorry he didn't go to a person who was able to appreciate what a special cat he is. Yes, definitely get him a playmate. Please, though, next time you get an animal keep in mind that our pets depend on us to provide everything in their lives, including the required affection that they crave. Please don't deprive your cat of this, whether it means getting him a playmate or buying him tons of toys to play with.

Why are you complaining that your cat wants to give you affection? I wonder if your mother was bothered by having to give you love.
