No...it's just an urban legend.
The theory is that it makes it take longer to get drunk, but doesn't stop it.

Jasmine, what's the point of drinking if you don't want to get drunk? I hope you meant by drunk means buzz. I like getting buzz but not too buzz (drunk) where I can't stand or walk and start throwing up. So if you don't want to get drunk then don't drink too much. Have something to eat before you start drinking so that you don't get buzz too quickly but you'll have to drink more to get buzz if you have full-stomach. So eat lightly and just catch a nice buzz then stop drinking. You'll feel better the next day as well. But I never heard of butter being helpful. I say eat pasta or something like bread or potatoes but anything should do ok. Good luck

If you are drinking alcohol, at some point you will get drunk. It is a myth perpetrated by spy stories where a spy who does not want to get drunk, supposedly puts lots of butter down his throat and then drinks in front of people he/she wants to fool in believing that he is drunk. What the spy is supposed to have done in between is to induce vomit, when his enimies are not looking, and the butter is supposed to help this.

yes its a old russian trick, the grease in your stomach will reduce and slow down the alcohol level in your blood.
drinking a couple of glasses milk, before going on a drinking party also helps to keep you more sober.

greasy foods slows down how fast the alcohaul moves threw your system, however the only way to not feel the effect of alcohaul is to not drink. So in other words don't even think about eatting butter, drinking and driving! OK thanks!
