To win at a slot machine choose a denomination that you will be happy with a smaller payout. People don't win at slots because they play under their bankroll. When I worked the slot department I had so many people tell me how they lost $1,000 in a quarter slot. What idoits. If you bring that much to a casino to lose then you should be sitting at a $5 slot. You must be prepared to spend less than 2 hours at a casino win or lose. Most people don't want to only go to a casino for a short time, so they play a low denomination so their money is stretched out longer. This may be more fun, but you don't stand to win much.
To win more consistently also choose a slot machine that doesn't have too many combinations for a payout, for example a Double Diamond. Look at the difference between a Double Diamond and a Red White and Blue. They can't even fit the number of combiniations on a RWB machine glass. This results in too many vitual stops on the machine and a longer wait between any significant payout.
1) Plan on spending 2 hours or less.
2)Play OVER your bankroll
3)Choose a simple payout machine
Edit: Kayleigh is close but has the wrong idea. The machines do have randomizers, but they stop when the first coin or credit is dropped into the machine. After that, it doesn't matter if you put in one more coin or a million more coins.
Playing maximum coins is also better but doesn't produce any more frequent combinations to come up.
Machines are not designed to hit at any "level" as someone put it. And even if they were, you are no more informed as to when as the next guy.

Slots have a randomizer chip in them which only allows you to hit if you do the correct thing at the right time- meaning if you put in 2 quarters on a certain pull instead of one or three you will win if you press at exactly the correct moment. So yes - it's chance and timing only.

You have more chance at winning if you make a maximum bet. Try slot machines downtown rather than the strip. They are "looser"

Totally chance! If you want to guarantee a win, put your money in a savings account where you can draw interest
