I actually know a Christian girl who has a lesbian sister. It really depends on the "Christian". I would say that true Christian would still love their child and wouldn't disown them. If they did it would just tell the child that Christian's were extremely judgemental and non accepting. It would just drive the child away from Christianity rather than bring them toward the Lord. There are also many cases in which Gay people believe that they are Christians. Now if the child thinks that the parents shoudl notify the child but not being them down. I am sure that it would devastate the parent if they found this out because yes, in the Bible is says that Gay people would go to Hell and it is very depressing.

A person can still love their child but dislike what they do. As Jerry Lewis once put it, "You always love your family, but, sometimes you don't like them". That is just as God loves the sinner but hates the sin. From what I have seen of my friends and acquaintances that are gay they are of two types. The type that just doesn't feel good about themselves or accepted by the opposite sex and don't like being alone. The others are ones that have a tremendous rebellious streak running through them and if it were normal to be gay then they would be straight. They are very flamboyant and love attention of all sorts. I am very sad for people that have children like that...it must be heartbreaking and embarrassing. Heartbreaking because the parents miss out on being grandparents and they have a chance of losing their children to disease or crime. Worst of all, it is totally against what God would want for them. In times past there have been people with those tendencies and rather than donate their lives to immoral behavior, they dedicate their lives to God, contribute to the improvement of their families and society. It seems in times past that once a society accepted the gay lifestyle that society was basically over. Anyone can be lustful...that is easy. What I think God really wants from us is to learn how to be intimate with one another and I am not talking about sex. Mmm

I am not a fan of Cheney, or the Bush administration, but that previous answer was uncalled for. Cheney has publicly said that Bush is wrong about gay marriage. He has publicly said he supports his daughter's life style. That is unfair.

Please keep in mind -- I am not standing in judgment on either side of this issue. I am simply quoting what the Holy Bible says and giving my opinion, because you asked about what a Christian would do. I am just as wrong as anyone else, and I am saved only by faith in Jesus as the only begotten Son of God and His shed blood to cover all my sins... just like the rest of the world. I am no better than any other person on the face of this earth, and no worse.
I would say, that BOTH the child AND the parents, could fall under the following warning from the Holy Bible, if both claimed to be Christians... and I would, in love and with a gentle, meek spirit, warn BOTH the child and the parents.
The "disobedient to parents" particularly stands out for the child, along with the whole host of other bad stuff that may or may not be going on with the child. It is clear that the child is being disobedient to what the parents taught them. If a person cannot obey their earthly parents... how can it be assumed that they are attempting to obey their heavenly Father either?... which would be a grave mistake. Children need to obey their parents, plain and simple. There are reasons parents give the advice they give -- they have lived longer, seen more in their days, and studied more about truth than we have, whether we realize it or not. God made them our parents! I am 37, and I am still attempting (not always succeeding, but attempting) to obey my parental figures.
The "without love" may apply to the parents, along with the whole host of other bad stuff that may or may not be going on with the parents. I am not sure that I see "love" in the disowning of a child, no matter what the child has done -- quite the contrary, God, my heavenly Father, loved me even though I did many wrong things, and He continued to try to woo me back to Himself... and that is what I hope parents would do for their children too. Model their own parenting techniques after the parenting techniques of God our Heavenly Father.
The "unforgiving" may apply to BOTH sides... and Jesus said that only if we forgive other people, will we be forgiven. BOTH sides need to extend and receive forgiveness.
Here is the scripture:
2 Timothy 3 (NIV)
"Godlessness in the Last Days
1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,
4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them."
Like this scripture says, "have nothing to do with them" (v.5) until you see that they ALL have time to reconsider their stances, and to end up all on the same side: that of Jesus Christ, unified, sharing together the good news of Christ with the world.
There is work to do. Christians must not fight and bicker amongst ourselves. (I speak to myself also!) What kind of example does that set for the rest of the world of who Jesus is? A really bad example, as He is Love... He is not argument... He is not fighting and bickering... He is never hatred of people. He is the Love of God, which extends to all mankind. He knows how to "hate the sin" and "love the sinner." Thank God!
I hope this helps somehow. God bless you and your friend and their parents.
