It has become a bruised brown colour just below the tip. It can't be dirt as it where the finger / skin is attatched to the mail and I also regularly clean my nails. I've never had this before and it isn't painf ul.

my mum has had the same it could be due to change of medication go to your GP and they should take a nail clippings and send it away to a specialist. hope all goes well

certain ailments can manifest itself by showing on the finger nails which a doctor would understand

if the discoloration looks like slivers then that is normal it is driesd blood under the nail that looks like a sliver of wood......it could also mean fungus or liver problems

have your dermatologist test you for psoriasis, the nail can also determine a host of systematic health issues.

could be the start of a fungal infection....
