Last night I went to check up on my chihuahua, who was sleeping, and she was growling and crying softly as she slept. But her eyes were closed! I didn't know dogs had dreams...can they have nightmares too?

My dog sleeps at my feet when I work on the computer, and I have watched him dream many times, in fact he's doing it right now. No kidding! The REM (Rapid Eye Movement) beneath his lids is just like people. His breathing gets deeper and his ears twitch too! I just hope that when he catches the rabbit or deer this time it doesn't turn into an SUV!

See he does on rare occasions have bad dreams. I have seen him several times become startled awake, jump straight up, and go running to give warning about whatever he was dreaming about.

I never expected a dog to have so many human characteristics ... especially sneezing ... lol.

I don't know if I would call them nightmares but my dog dreams alot sometimes barking and growling quite loudly and her feet will twitch like she is running in her sleep she does this especially after she has been particularly active that day and playing with her little dog friends at their farm.

I definantly think that dogs and other animals for that matter have dreams and nightmares. My dog, Corgan, does the same thing all the time. She whimpers, growls, howls & whines... sometimes I think she even runs because her feet are going like crazy.

Yes, dogs do dream. My black lab used to move his paws and whimper while he was asleep. He used to snore too, lol. Just don't wake your dog while she is dreaming. It's not advisable to do that. Hope this helped!

My dog does the same thing. I think she is just dreaming, i dont know to tell if it bad or good.

Does whin when the want something, like why wolves howl. they want new pack members.

Parking could be playful or aggressive. and the same with growls.

I think dogs dream just like you and me.

Our boxer, Gracie, barks and looks like she is running in her sleep(it is kinda cute). She has done this since we had her. We boarded her at the vet's office for a couple of days and one of the vet techs noticed this and told the vet. The vet said it has been proved that dogs can dream just as much as humans can. Hope this helps.

My dog will whimper as well as wag her tail while she's asleep, however I have heard people say that animals don't have dreams, personally I don't believe them.
