You start out by explaining the fall of mankind into sin from an original state of perfection that existed when we were first created by God. At the fall, everything that was in perfect order, fell as well. Weeds grow faster than food, animals became predatory, people grow old and die, bad habits are learned faster than good ones, foul language is easier to use than good language, and man's basic nature was to seek their own purposes and not God's.
You then explain that God's purpose for creating man and women was to be fruitful and populate the earth. They were created as perfect fits for one another in their bodies and minds. Again, with the fall of mankind, these purposes were conflated with seeking self gratification and excess.
Thus, homosexuality is just one of a litany of the degradation of the perfect moral state found in original creation. Homosexuality is just one of a plethora of sins now existing in the world. Like all sins, we hate them, but we love the sinner.

Love the sinner, hate the sin. That goes for everyone, not just homosexuals. So, we should love and care about everyone, but be the best we can be and do the best we can do to obtain perfection (we won't reach it in this life and only through Christ). All others are our brothers and sisters. We need to be there for each other, help each other to overcome our weaknesses (all of us are inclined to sin. Homosexuality is one which some face while others face other sins).

You could tell them the facts, that homosexuality is a natural human variation like height or IQ, that nobody can choose their sexual orientation whether heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or transsexual any more than we can choose our height or IQ.
You could also tell them that some Christians interpret the Bible in an exaggeratedly homophobic way saying gay relationships are sinful (allegedly) but certainly not all Christians interpret the Bible this way and there are increasing numbers of Christians who understand that homosexual relationships can be as equally positive, loving and fulfilling as any other.

As a Christian you should already know that there is nothing wrong with being homosexual since even they are God's children. And it is certainly not your job or the job of your children to judge anyone who happens to be homosexual. If God made someone to be homosexual, who are you to say it's wrong? Besides, how would your children feel if they discovered they were gay and you'd told them that homosexuality is wrong? Love one another as God has loved you. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

We are all here to give an receive LOVE
And with love comes acceptance and understanding
That every person has the right to privacy in their personal life
And it doesn't matter what sexual preference a person has it has nothing to do with the person.

Hate the superstition, but love the superstitious.
Simply tell them that God does not make mistakes. Homosexual people are God's children, just as we are all God's children.
