First pour some oil in the pan.
Fry the chopped onions to a golden brown
Add chopped garlic and chopped ginger, fry
Add tomatoes ( either chopped or grated).
Add some salt ( this will help the tomatoes to get cooked fast)
When you see that this mixture has become a paste like consistencey, add the masalas----chilli powder, turmeric, jeera powder, corriander powder, ( in certain dishes you may have to add garam masala)
Then stir fry on slow heat for some time.
Normally the oil will become separate from the onion tomatoe mix and that is when you will know that the masalas are properly cooked.

not sure if ready means ground fine enough for those blending their own masala or if ready to put in other ingredients.Ground masala should feel very smooth without particles,cooked masala should by fried in enough oil on a low flame,till no raw smell of ingredients emanates,then you are right in adding meat or chicken that needs to be fried in the masala.

when you find that the mixture you are frying begins to leave
the vessel then you know that the masala is cooked.to be done
on a medium flame.
