I was always taught to hold the door open for people behind me, among other manners. At [my high] school, after the bell rings I hold the door open for the people behind me as I leave the class. I usually hold it open long enough for the people relatively close to me to leave, then I'll leave for my next class. Should I stay and hold the door open for all the people to leave, or should I just I just continue what I am currently doing? I've probably enough time to stay and hold the door open for everyone, and I don't want to seem rude. Is it considered impolite to just hold the door open for a short amount of time and then let the door close while others are still exiting, and should I stay to hold the door open? My classes consist of fifteen to thirty people. Thanks.

walk with the others, and hold the door open for the person behind you. it's overkill to hold it open for everyone.

If I don't have any good friends in the class, I hold the door for two or three people, then let them take care of it for the others.

If I DO have good friends in a class, then I will be more inclined to hold the door until my friend gets to the door, and then allow the rest of the class to take care of it, unless my friend is near the end of the line, and then I'll hold it for the last person. My friends usually wait, and they'll do the same for me.

As a mother of a toddler, I have become amazed at the number of people who don't do this anymore. I have had elderly women hold doors open for my stroller, baby, and I, and yet at the same time, have seen young men just standing there like idiots while the woman does this. If I were by myself, I would hold the door for the woman, but in that case, it would be nice if the men would hold the door for the both of us, if they're just going to be standing there. My husband often holds the door, not only for my and our daughter, but also for elderly men and women, and others with their hands full. He hopes this is a good example, but young people don't seem to notice anymore. *sigh* I'm glad there are still people out there who have learned this lesson.

Personally, i think holding the door open for everyone in the class is a little over the top. You should keep doing what you're doing. Holding the door open even for a few people is enough of a demonstration of politeness.

Again, there is a tricky balance you have to maintain there|

If you don't hold the door at all, then you are considered ignorant|

If you hold the door so long that everyone and their uncle can pass, people then think that you are a wiener|

The thing to do is to hold the door for the person immediately behind, and perhaps the person just behind that, but no more|

Just do what your intuition suggests to you|

Leave. Not only will you seem a little strange holding the door for 20+ people, you might be in the way, and losing time. No will ever hold it against you if you don't hold the door for them, or like you more for doing it, if you did it for everyone else. Those people creep me out though, usually seem desperate for any friend...

Wow...how thoughtful you are! I would personally think that you should continue doing what you are doing. If, say, you were at a restaurant or any other social scene, you would not be expected to stay hold open a door for people that weren't near you when you left. I would not be offended if I wasn't near the door when you left and you went on your way after holding the door for those near you.

Hold the door open long enough for the people behind you to get through but keep walking. Who knows, maybe your manners will be passed down the line?

I don't think that you should have to stay and hold the door open as everyone leaves. You aren't the doorman, but it is very polite of you. You can hold the door open for maybe 5 people that are behind you but then keep walking and let someone else have the responsibility

That is very thoughtful and considerate of you, and nice to hear!! I think you are within the confines of reason to hold the door for the next immediate person behind you.... if you feel compelled to hold the door for everyone, that is fantastic also... I would hold a little tip jar though :-) (Friendly humor here) Hope this helps and you get a chuckle out of it too.... :-D

I say it two times because of the fact the greater compliment human beings get for doing the perfect factor the greater they'll proceed doing it. maximum adult adult males don't understand approximately beginning doors, purely say thank you in the event that they allow you to bypass in direction of the door first on an identical time as retaining open the door. till you're in a wheelchair or have a stroller, because of the fact in specific circumstances while you're larger than primary (i'm speaking approximately because of the greater metallic) its harder to hold the door open on an identical time as waiting for he individual to bypass by using.

Just keep it open for those whom are right behind you. Don't stay around for all of those in your class. You don't want to wait for those getting all their things and for those whom are slower than others, those whom are talking...and perhaps making you late for class. I always held the door open for the next person..and they usually held it open for the next..and so on...
