It depends on your relationship with God. My mother died two weeks ago and in the casket, she looked peaceful and at rest. She was a person who lived her entire adult life right with God. That doesn't mean she was sinless, but she knew the power of the Blood of Jesus and maintained fellowship with God by Its cleansing. Therefore, when she died, she passed into Paradise awaiting the resurrection from the dead at which time she will be judged, as we all will, for how we have lived our life on earth and she will reign with Christ for eternity. So if you are a person who knows the Lord as your Savior, dying is a release from a sinful, decaying body and a rest to our soul. The Apostle Paul said to live is good, but to depart and be with the Lord is far better.
On the other hand, if you are not a believer, the Bible is pretty explicit about the after life and the judgment and suffering that will come to those who refuse God's salvation. Read the Bible for the details and pray the Lord will give you a heart to believe and accept Christ as your personal Savior.

Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)

Well, if I get 20 virgins, I'm writing my congressman. Why should we 'get' anything when we die? Is it GO? Do we get $200? Is there something behind door number 1? I think not.

A Christian who dies will meet God and live with him forever.A person who is not a Christian will be condemned to eternal punishment.....When we accept Christ, we are given eternal life. This does not prevent the death of our body, but it does assure true life with him in heaven forever and ever. And isn't that the life that counts the most.

we dont get anything but a new body ,if good we get grace ,if bad we go to hell ,there are different hells ,but only really evil people who reject god get sent there
hell is dark ,heaven is light ,god is light ,to go to hell you have to reject god or so love evil as to keep doing it after death
we get tempted to sin ,resist and even better save someone else from sinning you get to the light ,good people go straight there ,bad go straight to hell ,its not as harsh as it sounds we really choose it by doing [loving to sin] if you sinned but are ashamed or hate it thats good enough
but if your proud of it well thats your freechoice
cont worry trust every good you do counts
so does every bad
