It takes a few months... but you can distract yourself by making new freinds; walking around your new neighborhood; going out looking at the sites.. keeping yourself busy.

I know... I lived in three different countries.

It's ok to be home sick. I have moved from a warm climate to a very wet and rainy climate. I try to maintain some of the things I did in the other place--like I used to hike alot, there's lots of places to hike here. And I've kept my apt. sort of like my home is in some ways, I basically moved most of my house furnishings. Then for the lack of light we have here, I got 1 of those lamps that helps people in these gloomy climates. I know, I'm looking forward to moving back, though.

Make the new place feel like home. If it's a kitten a clock that has loud ticking, maybe a little stuffed toy to remind them of brothers and sisters. A little blanket the designates there spot or area. Lots of attention, love, cuddling, special treats, and try not to step on the poor thing.

I stay free of home sickness by staying home. But that's just me.

you didn't say how old you are and how far away you are from home...but a few things are universal. first, try to acclimate yourself to your new area, and then try making some new friends. it will take time, and you may find that it's too hard being away, so it's also important to remember that it's perfectly okay to go home. but even if you only make one friend, find someone who will make you smile. good luck...
