When I entered the freeway i squeeled my tires a bit then proceeded on the highway at 75 that had a speed limit of 65. The cop saw everything, when he pulled me over he said that he could write me up for several violations, such as wreckless driving, but only wrote me up for exibition of speed. The ticket states I was doing 30 plus on a posted 45 but I was on the highway. Does the onramp have a speed limit of 45. He has no radar, lasar, or pace on my ticket checked. If i plead not guilty can he bring up the other things when i go to court. This is also my first ticket of anykind. Should the judge offer a plea bargain to drop it to a civil, or do I ask him/her if then can because i really would rather not go to court, and do the offer this plea bargain if i say i am guilty or not guilty. I do not know much about the whole court system, i just really dont want my insurance to go up and have a criminal record.

Well, you have several issues here.

1. You were speeding 75 in a 65 zone.
2. you were speeding 30 mph over the on ramp limit of 45 (75 mph)
3. Your squealing tires means you lost traction because of your excessive speed.

The officer could have written you three tickets, one for speeding on the highway, one for speeding on the on ramp, one for reckless driving (that would stem from doing 75 mph on the ramp).

The ticket for Exhibition of Speed actually is not a speeding ticket, so you got a big break. Drivers get this ticket for excessive acceleration at stop lights/signs, known as "peeling out". Sometimes for drag racing.

The judge is not going to offer you a "plea bargain"; that is something a prosecutor would do if you were charged with a serious crime. A misdemeanor traffic offense doesn't count.

Is there a fine listed on the ticket or does it say you must go to court? If the fine is listed, you could just go to the clerk of court and pay the fine and be done with it. If you do have to appear in court then I would suggest you simply plead guilty. The judge will ask you if you have anything to say and you can explain that this is your first offense and you certainly will never repeat the mistake. A respectful, and remorseful attitude will go along way in influencing the judge to give you a break.

You will not have a "criminal record"; you might have a record for a traffic offense, but that is no big deal. Even I have one of those.

The first thing that I would comment on is your statement "becoming a police officer for six years". What is that? Its not the army where you sign up for a period of time. A police department will never hire anyone who is going to leave because the cost of training is too high. About his tickets. His record surely is not going to help him. There will be a hiring pool of X number of candidates. Lets say that 75% of them have never had a ticket. Who do you think that they are going to choose if everything else is equal?

Find out if you can take a class, like defensive driving or one of the others, and get the thing dropped that way.
It would cost about as much as the ticket, but it wouldn't go on your record and the insurance company wouldn't be the wiser.

Welcome to America. This is the way it is so you will have to live with it. Many Police are corrupt and there is very little one can do. It's all about the money.
