Yes, I have. There are some good answers but I wanted to add this information.
If you have NEVER even had a shoulder rub from a friend, make sure you know if you want deep (tissue) massage, which is quite intense for the sensitive person; or, Swedish/Esalen (sp) massage--which is geared twd relaxation and ultimate relief of pain.
For me, I am very sensitive to touch and prefer the Swedish Esalen form; then, if they want to use pressure points or go deeper after I am relaxed--go ahead!
I also make sure I talk w/the masseuse/masseur and find out their methodology; some can vary their technique, some CANNOT !!
There are many aimed at total pampering, like at a spa: hot stones, although I've never had it; I'm drawing a blank here . . .
I've had MANY massages, and have taken workshops. One day I hope to be certified; I've been told I "have the gift."
Oh, and there is FOOT MASSAGE !!
Based on points in the foot that relate to every organ in the body. This is nice, if you like your feet touched. One woman in Boston, almost replaced my chiropractor !!! She was so good; I always walked away feeling like a million bucks.
A general massage can be 30 mins. to 1 hour. Now that I know what I like (and need) I go for 1 hour 15 mins. A long time; but, AHHHHH!!
Hopefully, your first try won't be a bad experience.
I have had several. While drinking water is good; if you have had a bad experience and hurt more than when you went in:
take an epsom salt bath (yes, 1! small container to a bath tub of water) and then sleep like a baby.
The bath can be drying to the skin; soap doesn't mix well w/it--so shower first if you want. Then, put on your body lotion. The bath will help dissolve the lactic acid built up in your body causing the pain.
Also, once you get used to it there are aromatic formulas for different reasons: ultra relaxation, stress, muscle tightness after a hard workout at the gym or in the yard, etc.
So, enjoy--and, explore !!!

Yes I have been to a couple different legit certified masseuse and the experiences have been great with all of them.

A good masseuse will tell you what the treatment/ massage is that they will give you, allow you to control the experience by asking you how you feel and if they can/should adjust the pressure, and protect your modesty (nakedness) if so desired. I think you will find a pleasant experience with any licensced masseuse.

P.S. Drink lots of water afterwars because massage help release toxin build ups in your body that you will be able to flush out by drinking the water. Good luck!

It is now modernly called a massage therapist. Masseuse/masseur old terms for female/male respectively. I have gone for massage for over 20 years, and given them professionally since 2000. No bad experiences receiving. Got real sick of male clients expecting happy endings.

Yes. All wonderful experiences. There is nothing better. Just make sure you drink plenty of water afterward. When you get a massage it breaks up the lactic acid crystals in your body. You have to flush them out with water or else they will reform and you will feel worse than before. It happend to me once.

If you have really bad pain you should try a Rolfer if you have one in your area. They are wonderful and wow you will come out of there feeling like a new person.
I have had massage therapy and rolfing done and the rolfing takes the cake by far to healing and over all wellness.

Rolfing btw is massage but it is a deeper tissue massage and it entails massaging the muscles to there proper place, not just massaging out the kinks.

Yes a few times, most of them when I was pregnant and shortly afterward. My experience was wonderful. I felt comfortable with the person and I knew that she had excellent training and credentials. You can find a good one at a gym or spa, or possibly a referral from a doctor or other healthcare practitioner. That way you know he or she is trained.

It all depends on the person who is working on you. They could be to rough to the point that you end up hurting more than helping you. You have to find the right one. I would suggest going to a school and having a student work on you to start with, and perhaps talk to one of their teachers, to help you find a reputable person.
