besides infection the reson you need to go to a professional is because the skin is separated by layers of water, meaning one layer of skin can be out of line with another. If you pierce it incorrectly you will never be able to change your jewellry and it will need to be cut out because as the skin grows back it will realign your jewellry.

Apprentices usualy work for free or cheap, go to a local studio and see if they have any, at least it will be safer than sticking an unsterile needle through your nose. And alcohol and boiling doesnt make it sterile, only a certain amount of pressure can kill all the possible nasties on that safety pin you will probably end up using.

Before you send me some nasty email, or edit your question and tell me that you don't need no lecture, keep in mind, I've been where you are wanting a piercing you can't have, and considering piercing things myself, but after I researched what was involved in piercing something, I realized its alot more than sticking a needle in me, and putting an earring there. There's the whole sterilization issue, and I've come to realize, that, that's why piercers exist, and go through rigerous apperenticships, and multiple classes on the human body, first aid, etc. Seriously what if you hit a nerve or something?

The best way is to get it done professionally. Why don't you save up some money, or something. Do you even know the proper guage jewellry that goes in a nose piercing? or what type of equipment you need to get it done? Do you even own an autoclave. Do you know the proper proecdure involved in piercing your nose? I know all this, and even I still go see a professional. Do you honestly think that following some instructions that someone on yahoo! answers puts up is going to help you safely pierce your nose. Let me guess you're under 18 and your parents wont either pay for it, or won't let you do it all together. Yes its your body, but you're living under their roof. How do you think they are going to react when they see the "piercing" You know self-piercing, there's the higher risk for infection.....how are you gonna explain an infection to your parents. If you want it that bad, you'll wait until you can get it done professionally.

I bet you still won't listen to me. *sigh* The time I waste trying to give people good advice. :[

Hi Lover, If you don't have the money right now why not save your money until you do. Sweetie you have to know what you are doing before you start piercing any part of your body. Save your money and then go to a tattoo shop and have it done right. You do know that piercing is a lot more painful that getting a tattoo. I was in the tattoo shop i go to all the time and there was this 19 year old girl who wanted her nose pierced. She got it done but she was crying when she left. I would get a tattoo any day than being pierced. A Friend.

I say get it done professionally because it's safer. Personal safety and health is a number one issue behind piercings and tattoos. If you don't have the money right now, wait until you can so that you don't get a massive, painful infection on the chance that something goes wrong. I am all for getting piercings but home piercings are dangerous is the bottom line. Please save up for it, for your health.

What Deb P is talking about happened to mine! I got it done "professionally" and the layers still shifted causing the skin to grow over the top, among other things happening but that was the main cause. Needless to say .... it's no longer in now and my insurance covered the cost of having it cut out via an emergency surgery basically .... I'm just lucky they didn't claim it was Cosmetic ... $600 E Surg. would have been hard to pay! Yikes! Think about what it could cost if something goes wrong.

I pierced my navel using this method, so i recomend this best: Have these things ready and the first 4 items sterilized An earring Swabs 2 sharp straight heated needles a clamp Potholder Ice cubes Neosporin or an antibiotic 1.Use a sterile alcohol swap to clean the area 2.Use a clamp (a clothespin works fine) to clamp the area ready to be pierced 3.Let the area be clamped for about 5 minutes 4.Make sure the needle is sterilized and heated 5.Hold the needle with a potholder in your right hand 6.Remove the clamp with your left hand then place your left hand behind where you expect the needle to come out as brace 7.Push in with the needle as if trying to touch your left hand with the needle (try not to go too fast as you might actually prick your hand on the other side) 8.If it gets too painful in between and you cant take it or you’re bleeding too much, stop, clean and ice the ear, rest for a few minutes if you need to ( you probably shouldn’t take too much of a break as the skin starts to heal quickly) take the other needle and resume where you started 9.Once the needle pierces through don’t pull it out, continue to push it until it gradually goes through the other side 10.Ice it for a few seconds, don’t wait, take the ring and slide it through the new hole. Spray everything thoroughly with Neosporin. Make sure that every day after your piercing you take out the ring, clean and spray it and the area with Neosporin until it fully heals.

Okay...you say that a comment of "get it done professionally" is not welcome, but hold on...please GET IT DONE PROFESSIONALLY. I had my nostril pierced for over 2 yrs. It was done with an earring gun(a big no no, I later found out!). It never healed properly the whole time I had it, and I cleaned it and took care of it. God knows what will happen if you pierce your nostril with a sewing needle or a pin. The piercing place uses a special needle that takes some of the skin out(the needle is hollow). If you can't afford to pay someone to do it(or you are too young to get it done legally)...wait. If you let it heal up, you still will have a scar on your nose, just to let you know. It's faint on me, but it's there.

if you dont have the money to get it done safely you shouldnt get it done period, there are a lot of risks in piercing your own body and not to mention it could also look bad. in honest opinion you should just wait till you have enough money to have it done. your nose is a very sensitive area and nose rings are at extremely high risk of infection. would you rather be trend and have and infected nose that looks really sick or wait to have it done when you can afford it. think this over wisely

First off should not do this at home because your not going to have a needle with the thickness that you need, you more then likely are not going to use a sterile needle so you are more likely to get an infection, your not trained on how to put the ring in. There is real trick to it. It not a painful piercing but it does feel funny like you have bugger stock in your till your body gets use to it. I would suggest save and wait.

unwelcome comment: I know that you dont' want to get it done professionally but how are you going to pay for it if it gets infected because you did that? That's going to cost you ALOT more than just the price of getting it pierced. They don't just take a sewing needle and poke it through your nose you know.

Then save the money to get it done professionally. Saving a few bucks by doing it yourself is not worth the risks and aggravation.

Its not what you WANT to hear, but its what you NEED to hear. Its simple, but not as simple as you think and without proper jewelry and tools, you can be causing your nose a world of problems and ugly scarring.

If you can't afford to get it pierced, you probably can't afford to take care of it and when you get an infection, how are you going to afford that mess? Please, just save your money.
