We just got a dog. She is a pug-chiuaua mix. She loves my mom, and follows her everywhere. I say nice things to her and give her treats, but she always growls and barks at me, and she bit my hand when I tried to pet her.

Don't force her to like you. Let her do it on her own time. Try feeding her her breakfast and dinner out of your hand and not from your mom. Also, try to get down on her level and turn your body perpendicular to hers so that you are less threatening. That and make sure you don't have any sunglasses or hats/hoods on as dogs don't like people when they can't see their face.
Hope this helps

Chiuaua's are very loyal to their "favorite" and are also very protective. Depending on who the previous owner was, if there was one, she was probably miss treated by other "kids". That's assuming that you are still living at home. This is typical behavior of the chiuaua breed. You just need to let her get used to you and never mis-treat her. If she is biting and nipping your mother needs to let her know that that behavior not be acceptable. And I don't mean to abuse her. Dogs are pack animals and have a pecking order. This one needs to be educated on who the Alpha is...meaning your mom.

Bribe her with food.
Hot dogs and cheese do a lot to change a dog's attitude.
Give the treats BEFORE she starts growling and snapping at you. If you give it when she is misbehaving, she will continue to do so.

Obedience training will help you a lot. Look onto classes or a book from the library.

This May Sound Weird, but your dog needs trust, I use to train dogs and the first thing you always have to do is gain their trust, it may take more than just a few days for the dog to become accustom to you . But keep sliding her a few treats and let her come to you.

unfortuantly, these small dogs tend to be one person lovers, and it is not always you. my husband of 27 yrs has had 2 dif chihuahuas, the 1st one died at 13 yrs, the other one is now about 4 yrs. both only luv him, they both tried to bite me and also company and friends when we would get to close to him/she. we now have 5 other dogs, one of which is 2 yrs, and luvs me most, sleeps with me and goes to my friends house,(he wieghs 47 lbs) you may have to concede to this one and try again, remember, dogs are like all other animals, even humans, they can not be forced to luv you most. be glad that the baby is happy

Feed it. And Pet it. Spend time with it, and don't hit and yell at it. Also bring it another cute dog to hit. Also don't play country music. Dogs have keen ears so it hurts them even more than us humans.

My parents bought me a dog for christmas. The only problem was they had him for two days before they gave him to me. The dog had two days to bond with my parents. When they gave him to me, he would run back to my dad. Then I took the dog home with me. I live alone and the dog had to depend on me. Now when we go to visit my parents the dog knows who's boss.

Doggy treats always speed up the liking process.

you probably step on her or hurt her in some way when you bought her home. Buy a new dog who is still a baby and go on from there.
