My best guess is that the material I'm shoving into my ears is different. It's glass, and I've worn glass before, but not glass from Hottopic *where they're apparently inattentive enough to missmark sizes. it said 00ga, i thought i'd stretch. it lied, and i wound up with some pretty blue-swirled spirals in 0ga. on the bright side, i got to wear them without seaking out a taper and a place that'll sell a 17yr old lube at the mall* So, I wore them, took them out when I went to sleep, put them in this morning and took them out and noticed a "wrong" smell. I finnished stretching two years ago, and did it the right way, so I am well aquainted with my own ears' stench, but this smelled like, I don't know, sour or rotten. My ears look and feel fine, so does anyone know why the heck my ear-funk is smelling funky?

Same thing happened with cigerette smell on my hands a while back, I wonder if it's the same thing? I really hope not, cuz it smells nasty and that didn't go away.

If you don't know, you need not reply. Obviously the first two responders were clueless *no offense* but docters tend to hate piercings beyond lobes gunned in unsterile conditions at the front of Clair's in the mall. Better hepatitis and infection in you lobes than a nice, healthy piercing in your tongue, yes? They'd be just as clueless as anyone who reffers to stretching a piercing as "gaguing." Saying you gagued your ears is like saying you "inched" or "footed" your room. It's a measurement, not a verb. I actually got that quote from a pro piercing, so shuttup you know-it-all 13yros that think it is a great idea to be able to stick your thumb through your ear now, but figure that it'll grow back. Reality will hit you hard with that one.

I actually perused the kaos softwear FAQ before ordering silicone plugs a while back. Got black ones first, then eventually got my hand on the ones with the 3-d hearts on them. Love the squishy.

I still cannot figure out why it smells different, though. I know my ear-funk, and what I'm smelling is not my ear-funk. I guess I'll wash them real good before they enter me again and I'll test things out by putting in my old stand-by SSS flesh tunnels, cuz those are awesom, even if they don't ALLWAYS stay in *double flare, cuz i hate o-rings*

Just to let you know, jewelry from hot topic is questionable in terms of quality and standards. I never get jewelry from there because the one time I did, it was awful. Sites like bodyartforms.com or getting jewelry from a piercer is a better way to go about doing it.

Just because the piercing is glass and you've worn glass before doesn't matter. The material could have been treated and formed differently which can effect the ear funk. As long as the ear funk isn't building up(more than normal) on the jewelry and isn't slimy or oddly colored, its not a huge deal. Different materials will make my ears smell differently, I've just learned that's how my body is and its never been a problem. Certain materials just react differently to your body's bacteria and oils and will give off different smells (kind of like how perfumes will smell one way on person A and a different way on person B), the same thing applies to jewelry.

I have had mine stretched to one inch for about 7 years now. Unfortunately, the odor just comes with the territory. Basically its like ear B.O. Alot of it has to do with how porous your jewelry is, for example, if you have wood plugs they tend to absorb oils from your skin or shampoo and soap residue which causes the smell. The smell is a result of bacteria building up. If you have stainless jewelry the odor is definitely more noticeable, and even more-so with glass jewelry. The only way to keep your ear funk under control is to wash both your ears and the jewelry every time you shower. Antibacterial body washes like Dial work best for me. Good luck!

Well from what i just read, it says that the thing you put in your ear can sometimes have oil or dried soap

But hey you can read more from this site

Maybe the one that you bought it just a bad quality one, made with inferior products

I found this as well which might explain it
This effect and the smell that goes along with it varies from person to person and from material to material, with metals generally seeming worse than other materials, like organics.
