YES!! My entire family saw a hawk pick up my sister's yorkie. The bird luckily dropped the dog a few yards away unharmed. Three days later we found out the dog killed my little brother's pet bird, a bird that the dog used to let land on him. I guess the little guy doesn't like birds anymore....

Although I've never seen a hawk prey on a small dog, I have seen an eagle swoop down and pick up a puppy while I was in Alaska. The local humane society in the city that I lived in was constantly posting flyers and newpaper ads, as well as television and radio spots about this. If you are worried about something like this happening then it might be a good idea to watch your pet when it is outside. At the worst, you got to enjoy playing with your dog and spending some time outdoors.

Oh yes, they can and will. I have not expierienced this but they have went after cats before and luckily it did not get the cat my aunt was caring for, the hawk put a holee in it's head either from the beak or razor like nail. I never leave my cats out there is a very large Hawk here, it comes all the time, I have never seen a Hawk this large in my life, Maybe it is a Paragon. It is as large as an eagle if not bigger. It is a georgeous thing to look at, but while eating your dog. take care!

The bird did not get his dog ,but that boy looked really bad and had several laserations from this red tailed hawk . The boy took 19 stiches in all . I hope this helps.

I had just gotten a Japanese Chin puppy, took it out to walk her, had to go answer the phone and when I went back out, a huge hawk was circling over the puppy. Had I not gone out she would have been scooped up by the hawk, Also, a friend had a small dog who a hawk took and flew away.

It can happen. If the dog is small enough and the hawk is big enough. Think about it if they can eat a 5 to 10 pound rabbit, they can take down your 4 pound yorkie.

My mom's teacup poodle was almost caught by a hawk. He swooped down twice and missed because her dog was chasing a cat and jumping around. Then my mom ran out into the backyard and scared off the hawk. And it's also been in our local paper, a chihuahua was taken by a hawk. So, yes, it happens.

Yes, they will eat any small dog or cat, if they're hawks in the area where you live and you have a small dog, i would recomend a bell to put on his/her collar, it will scare off all the hawks and they won't want to go anywhere near her/him.

Yes, the hawks will take a small chihuahua. There have been documented cases where a hawk will try to take a small chi.
