There are a few places where I went in because of a deal, and went back later without the deal because I really like the food.
I tip on the price of the meal. I could care less if the waitress expects me to tip on food I didn't pay for.

It depends on the establishment. If it's like a deli or something where tips are appreciated but not required, then no I would not tip. If it is a restaurant where you get served and would normally tip, then yes. You tip on what the entire bill would be . If you are already getting a sandwich for free, would giving and extra $2 really kill you? If it would, then maybe you shouldn't dine out. I don't know how the server would ring this deal in. I waited tables for 4 years and every now and then the store would have promos and coupons with buy one get one fee and stuff like that. It showed in our total sales, but showed as price deducted on the customer's receipt. As a server, you claim your tips based on your total sales. If you are selling $20 worth of food but only getting tipped of off $10, then you are losing money from the table itself that tipped you poorly, and you are losing money from the IRS for taxing you. As a server, I hate coupons. People are cheap and do not understand that you only make $3 an hour and live off of your tips.

I would tip as if I had actually paid for 2 sandwiches. The server is still doing the work for 2 people(2 sandwiches).
If I really enjoyed my meal, I would return even if there wasn't a coupon offered.

I would tip based on the full value, because the tip is for service, not based on what you paid. In general, we use the amount paid as a rule of thumb to base a percentage on....but really it's for the service provided.
So, if the sandwich paid for was $2.50 and you received a $2.50 sandwich free, then the total value is $5...I'd base the tip on the total value of what you received.

No, because I would assume that you would get reimbursed for that coupon from the parent company of the franchise itself. Am I not right? Why else do you owners save those coupons and mail them in.
BTW, if I have a coupon, I always buy extra food like a desert, so its not a total loss for the owner if he doesn't get reimbursed.
And we don't tip fast food workers here in Canada. We expect the employer to pay them. You are better off charging more for your food and paying them yourself.

I answered your other question and i will elaborate here. I have been to places with buy one get one and returned if i liked the place. If not i just use the cupon and be happy with it. I do tip but i tip 15% of what a paid for not what the meal is worth

Of course you tip on the WHOLE bill, as if you were paying for two. The waitpeople make 2.15 an hour and depend on your tips. Stop being cheap!

how much a 2nd sandwich would have cost? $10 at the very most which means $1.50 - Most likely about $5 which means a big whopping 75cents extra tip
