Bull! You already know what would happen... all the Christians would post in the Atheism category, and all the atheists would post in the Christian category.

Nobody is interested in preaching to the converted. We all want the same thing.. to ram our respective viewpoints down other people's throats in the most clever, rude, (and on rare occasions intelligent), ways possible.

And I for one am loving it!!! Aren't you?

Sadly, the uneducated (in theology, philosophy, etc.) or the casual reader of religion related items would inundate the forums as they do now with flippant comments.

It is best to use one's judgment to seek those questions that appear to hope for cogent, rigorous, and respectful responses. Sometimes, even the most cynical will benefit from a well-reasoned response in the privacy of their own rooms and the answerer may even make someone think deeper or motivate them to seek more information.

That is why I moderate an internet forum on advanced theological topics where the vitriolic comments can simply be ignored.

Not really. I'm more of a don't-rock-the-boat kinda gal. Sometimes it's entertaining but for the most part, it's pretty sad. Very rarely do I see anyone on either side just rise above the petty insults. No one will admit they don't really know what's out there and that they just have an idea of what they think is right. Bickering online about faith is pointless. No one is going to change their views because some dude on Yahoo! Answers told them they are going to burn in hell or they believe in a sky daddy. It's two groups of people saying the same things to each other and both not realizing that they're exactly the same.

Neither are open minded or even the slightest bit decent. You can disagree without being on a moral soap box or insulting someone's intelligence.

My honest and objective opinion is atheists should be in the Philosophy or Humanities Section not in RSS simply because atheism is not a religion; neither are they into spiritual matters.
I wouldn't mind if they posted questions on RSS as long as they don't answer questions posted in RSS. For the same reason, I don't think atheists will feel offended if I posted questions on atheism in the Philosophy Section. Buddhism is sometimes called atheist. Even so, they are classified as a Religion. If atheists can have atheism classified as a religion then by all means let them participate in this section. Until that is done, atheists should only be allowed to post questions in this section.
May the Lord's peace be with you.

Preaching to the choir is boring. I'd like to think the rattling of ideas here can be useful despite the thrown tomatoes. Imagine the power that would be present if both those groups of dorks agreed completely on something and they all acted upon it.

Some Christians come here and ask simple questions about churches in a certain city or how to handle a situation they are in. There is no reason they should get attacked from every corner, but they do. Maybe they should have "debate" section and "sincere" section.

As an Atheist, I was thinking that the Christian one would have none. And the Atheist one would have plenty. The people who believe in ghosts and those who don't. I don't care what you believe in. What ever it is, to thy own eyes be true. And leave everyone else alone.

I don't think it would be as popular! I hate segregation and what makes this forum so interesting and entertaining is when people of differing views answer questions.

As for Coolest Ghoul ... it's not nice to call Christians mean! - kidding!

You forgot about the ACLU coming in and suing Yahoo! for acknowledging Christianity as a 'special' religion, while not giving place to Mormons, Muslims, Druids, Liberals, and whoever or whatever else you may choose to worship.

nicely, there is the Jews too. the element you would be able to desire to attain is that Atheism is a reactionary term. without the proselytizing of Christianity it would not exist in that's cutting-edge volume of utilization. Buddhism and Hinduism and so on. are not to blame for bigotry in u.s.. Christianity is.

I think the two categories should be "nice people" and "mean people" ... there are a lot of people here for some spirited debate. There are others here with an agenda.
