I do not know ow it all began, but roses have said *love* thru the ages..... and as for changing the tradition ? Why not ? As long as it is from your heart and you can explain the meaning behind the change, such as the parsley !!! It with a cute or loving note would prob. go over well !!! It would for me !!! So make your own traditions and show your LOVE !!!!!!!!!!! God bless

Who said it had to be roses? Roses are simply considered the "romance flower" why? I dont know! But they are, and valentine's day is the romance holiday. Therefore roses go hand in hand with valentines day, but hey, start a new trend, break out of the old traditions. Good luck with your anti-roses campaign!

It is a tradition! But if you dont want to give roses to your love, give her something else like parsley that you mentioned and she will probably cook you pasta. Joke!

Haha!! This is a hilarious question. I'm really not sure why it has to be roses. I love that "you spice up my life" thing. I think i'll give my boyfriend some chili peppers. LOL! Thanks for the laugh and the great idea.

Roses are the traditional flower to show love, plain and simple. If you'd prefer something else, just tell your lover.

The way I see it that roses represents love, due to their color red. I personally like giving all kinds of colors to my lady. each color symbolizes something for us. Good Luck finding the right answers.

Some might think it is just traditional... I however think that different flowers are better for this occasion. Tulips are good.
anyways... hey... what happened to a movie and dinner or ??
