The difference lies in how the farmer treats the soil, mainly how he fertilizes it and controls pests. The organic food craze is motivated partly by concerns for the consumer's health--as you say, there is a concern that synthetic pest control chemicals seep into the edible part of the crop--but mainly by concerns for the earth's health. Conventional farms put a few kinds of chemicals on their fields, and those chemicals make farming much easier, but they all eventually soak into the soil, then into the groundwater, etc. By buying organic food, the consumer chooses to support the overall less detrimental farming practice. But the final product is much the same, despite the mystery behind the name 'organic'.

Recent medical studies have documented much higher nutrient content in organic foods. For example, a study found that organic oranges have about 160% MORE vitamin C per ounce than 'regular' oranges. That is really important when you consider that 50% of Americans do not consume the RDA level of Vitamin C and 25% are borderline scorbutic (severely deficient).
Additionally, organic foods have much lower levels of pesticides and chemicals on them.
Best wishes and good luck.

Organic foods are natural foods, grown the natural way and preserved the natural way without the aid of any chemicals. Our bodies have evolved over millions of years to digest food in a way accepted by our body system. Any tampering with this chemically will have adverse effect on our body as well as Eco system we live in. So not only we will harm our self but we will harm the planet making it useless even for the future generations to come.

I live just a few blocks from an organic grocery store and I have been trying all kinds of foods from there. They are usually more expensive but in almost every case they taste way better! They don't always look better though but the taste and the fact that they are free of chemicals and pesticides make them better.

Well, not to try and glorify them, but when possible, I do try to buy some organic foods, especially my meat.
The thing is, meat is crazy in the way it's harvested. Animals are injected with horomones to bulk them up and speed up their growth. A chicken back before horomones took approximately 84 days to grow to it's market weight. It now takes about 37-42 for a standard chicken to be grown. Maybe I'm the only one here who thinks thats gross... The horomones they're given can also have an effect on the human body. If they eat it, and we eat them... well, follow the logic.
I just try to buy my meats organic. They have a higher quality, and well, they're just not pumped full of drugs.

Well organic foods aren't chemically treated...so as to give you various forms of cancer etc...they are all natural and that's a pretty big deal. :)

There isn't really any big deal. It is just the way the produce is farmed.
