I am not sure whether MS WORD has that capability. But Win2k has a built in software called narrator, which could be used for the purpose you are asking.

Select Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Accecibility -> Narrator.

You could make the narrator spell all the characters you are typing or you can make it read a whole page or document.

The key for making the narrator read is Ctrl + Alt + Space. Click the help button in narrator and it ll guide you for the rest.
