I have windows media player but is there something better out there?

DivX is the best one, is also free and comes with codecs.

I like PowerDVD. I got WinDVD and PowerDVD from computer purchase and from a DVD drive purchase.
Windows Media Player also plays DVD and it's already installed though.
My preference
1) PowerDVD
2) Windows Media Player
3) WinDVD
I think Winamp also plays DVDs. I used to use it a lot but I had already had too many DVD players installed. I also have ATI DVD (came with video card).

Quite a good one is called "Video LAN" or VLC. It's free, works well, and is available to read about and download at the below link. Have fun.
