What you mentioned is exactly what the words "chosen people" implies. This is also emphasized by the distinction used by the Jews dividing the human being into Jews and gentiles. Whether the Jews understand it this way or not is not the point. The point is what kind of a God is that Who chooses from amongst his own creation?

My question is: Are the Jews THE CHOSEN PEOPLE as in all times, or WERE THE CHOSEN PEOPLE at a time, but not any more, bearing in mind that they have committed numerous atrocities against God???!!! They left Egypt lead by Moses to fall into the worship of the Egyptian golden calf!

The people who are called the "chosen" people, are the ones that wrote the book SAYING they're the "chosen" ones. Of COURSE it's going to say that. What else would it say..."Nope, sorry guys, you're not the chosen ones, I like the people over there better." ?

Do you mean in the Biblical sense? As the Jews were God's chosen people???
If so, then don't worry so much. God first sent Jesus to the Jews, to save them. However, they rejected him.

When God made the decision that Gentiles (non-Jews) were open to the message of Jesus, the Jews ceased to be His chosen people. Anyone who accepts Jesus is now on the fast path to heaven, and naturally a chosen person.

It means those whom God has chosen to reveal Himself to. If God has chosen to reveal Himself to me it doesn't mean that I'm a first class citizen and everyone else is second class. Why and whom God chooses is a mystery... We are definitely not chosen based upon our own merit.

I am Muslim. People of the book are Jews, Christians, and Muslims. We say we are chosen but they can still go to heaven. I think all religions say they are the chosen though.

Every religion considers itself special and uniquely loved by its god/s. The Jews as part of their mythology added the extra wrinkle of having been chosen by god to spread his word, it was and is viewed as a burden not a distinction.

Nope, it's just one of those terms that segregates humans from one another. We're all chosen.
