My son (who by the way is getting ear tubes, and adenoids and tonsils removed tomorrow) is sick all of the time. He had a constant fever. Some illness' make you run a high fever and feel okay while others make you feel awful but not have fever. I say 103 is high, but not enough for the emergency room unless there is trouble breathing or vomiting etc. I am probably a lot more laid back because my son is sick all of the time. About 4:00 one morning my son who is 5 came to my room with a fever of 106. I freaked. After a dose of ibuprofen it came down and we called the doctor during business hours. He had pneumonia. We treated it at home...he was fine.

Trust your instincts. If you are not sure if the child is sick enough to go to the emergency then he probably isn't. You WILL know when to go. A fever is NOT a bad thing. It is a line of defense against disease. In my opinion let the fever do it's job before you bring it down.

I know this isn't what you asked, but I hope this helped.

Parents often want to know whether to call a doctor when a child has a fever. In general, get medical help if your child: Is weak, tired, or lethargic Has trouble breathing Is under 3 months of age Has a stiff neck Has purple spots on the skin Has a seizure Has a fever over 103 degrees Fahrenheit Has a fever that persists longer than 24 hours even with treatment, or is accompanied by other symptoms (like vomiting) I personally would give Motrin at 101* because I know they just don't feel good. And I would call the doctor in the morning.

No more than 103. If it goes any higher you need to call the doctor. You can help the fever with childrens asperin or by putting them in a tub of warm water or by putting a cold water bottle on their head or neck with a thin towel between it and them. Keep an eye on the fever. They can also drink ice water to help but don't take their temp. to soon after or you won't get an accurate reading.

you should never let it get past a 102. My son had to go to the hospital he was running a103 temperature he had to get an iv they pumped liquid in to him ,the doctor told me to stop giving him medicine cause it don't work it makes things worse cause the body cant fight the fever. If you cant get the child to the doctor right away take the clothes off so he or she can get cool or put them in a cool bath tub that should help.

I used to get all upset if my children's fevers were over 102. Then my doctor told me to relax and let their bodies fight the germs with the fever. If, however, the fever continues over a 48 hour period and starts to spike over 103, I call the doctor.

I never let it get over 102 on my 3 kids. We always used kids Advil and Tylenol at the same time (you can stack them). If they started to get over 102 it's cold bath time and then cover them up. If the fever didn't break within an hour of that it was doctor time.

That depends on what the child's normal temprature is. My norm is 96.7 so anything above 98 I begin to watch, my daughter's is 96.5 always was so if it went over 97.6 I would be calling the doctor's office.

NOt high at all. If it's at 99 deg, you need to give tylenol to help the temp go down. in about 30 mins, check the temp again, if it's still high and over 100, go to emergency.
