It's a shame so many people like to dog on the Mormons. They are likely some of the most Christian people out there. They strictly follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, professing Him to be the Cornerstone of their religion, recognizing that only through Jesus can makind be saved. They also believe in the foundation of the Church which He set up, with prophets, apostles, etc. They believe in continuing revelation from God as is preached and found in the Bible. They strongly value the Bible and attempt to adhere to its teachings. The difference between some of the other Christian faiths is that the Mormons believe that God doesn't just communicate with one group of people, but that He has communicated with many and that the writing of some of those other people are available (i.e., the Book of Mormon). They also don't believe in the Trinity as created by the Catholic church in 325 A.D., but believe God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit are seperate beings (e.g., numerous times Jesus prayed to the Father). People often criticize or cut down other faiths because they aren't in line with their own, but this shouldn't happen, at least not if we're being Christlike. We should all respect each other for what they believe and serve each other as Christ would have us do.

Honestly, there are too many to name. Sometimes, there are different varieties of Christian denominations.
Just remember, to be considered Christian or a Christian church the focus must be that Jesus died on the cross to save mankind. Any sect that doesn't hold that at the center is not Christian.
I'm not sure who the 'true' beginning church was. Some say it is the Roman Catholics. By and large, they are the largest influence on Christian history. In the 1500s, Martin Luther began one of the first major splits in the church creating Lutherans. Basically, he was upset with some of the ideals and happenings of the Catholic church, wrote them down and nailed it to a door (somewhere). From there, things kept going.
Other denominations are slightly more modern and I'm guessing based in America. Perhaps the influence of settlers, from different countries, had something to do with it.
Denominations such as the Amish and Mennonites date back nearly to the beginning of America as a country and were founded on different interpretation of when a person recognizes their faith and how to perceive it as an adult.
But in the end, disagreements of mankind is what has fueled the divisions. People simply can't work together, so they start their own way.

Jesus was Jewish.
Then his people killed him.
Then a cult grew up that began worshipping Jesus and they were Christians.
Then the Catholic Church of Rome started which is the old powerful Christianity that is usually considered the old school original Christians.
Then the catholic church became horribly corrupt and in 1500 approx. Martin Luther nailed a letter to the church door saying he didn't need to follow the corrupt catholic church to be a believer in Christ.
This is where the protestants began. Protest religions...
Luther started Lutheranism, King something started Anglicans, etc. etc. All based on a reworking of the Ctholic church to their own beliefs.

First off there are catholics, the true christian church.
About 500years ago a breakaway group decided to form their own religion,They remained christian but started a war with catholics.
These other christians are called protestant.
Basically the christian word is made up of two groups, catholics and protestants.
Protestants continue for hundreds of years to splinter off so now there are dozens of different protestant religions.
Some basic differences between catholics is,
1.Protestants believe man is basically born bad as a result of origional sin and that its mans nature to be bad. They claim that God has them this way and that theres no point to confession.
Catholics reject that mans basic nature is bad.catholics believe people have virtue.
2.protestants believe more in the good deed and are far more relativist and unitarian than catholics.
Catholics are more concerned with the good in a person and dont value a persons usefulness by how useful they are.
Like this.
catholic=hopes and dreams.
protestant=ways and means

There are some fundimental truths of the Christian faith. To nonetheless be a Christian, you would ought to carry to those truths. those are issues for which the Scripture is amazingly sparkling. operating example, the Triune nature of God, the resurrection of Jesus, etc. All Christian denominations carry to those. those that do not can not rightfully be called "Christian". it may well be analogus to being a Darwinist who believes in punctuated equalibrium. Then there are some issues which aren't from now on as sparkling. those are the numerous factors of branch between denominations. operating example, what does "predestination" advise? Is it God searching down the tunnel of time and seeing who will trust in him as Armenians trust or is it God picking who he will supply grace to because the Calvinists trust? There are strong Scriptural arguments for each position. it truly is one hundred% maximum ideal? both? Neither? in view that those are concerns that do not violate the middle tenents of the religion, they're more beneficial or a lot less pleasant disagreements between brothers. comparable to 2 physicists debating diverse takes on string concept. Then there are the non subject matters. can we use modern-day music or classic hymns? KJV in trouble-free words or no longer? those are regrettably this style of issues that reason church homes to split now and again, yet that does no longer advise a congregationalist (church authorities through finished democracy) and a presbyterian (church authorities through elected representatives) aren't from now on both Christian. they purely have diverse kinds, techniques, and traditions. it truly is component of what makes Christianity so tremendous. How did you recognize which one is the actuality? the in trouble-free words way we may be able to recognize; through comparing what the church believes through what Scripture teaches. The Bible makes it sparkling that Jesus become the preexistant 2d individual of God. subsequently if the church says that Jesus become purely an angel, that church will be incorrect. Scripture says that Christ's sacrifice become all sufficent for the forgiveness of sin. If a church teaches that we settle on to operate to that salvation through , then that church would not be education the actuality. i am going to boost on that in case you want, yet i imagine you get the concept.

There is false Christianity- For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ" (Jude 3–4).
Notice that Jude warns of false teachers using the idea of "grace" as a vehicle for "licentiousness"—license to disobey the very laws of God!

There isn't any different kinds of Christianity. Christianity means being a follower of Christ. What there is, is different Religions. Each religion has different belief's and ways to worship God from others. A person who is Christian would choose a religion that best fits there way of worship and belief's. The best way to find this out is to visit each denomination until you find one which is comfortable for you.

There is only one type of christianity mentioned in the bible:
Romans 10
there are many denominations, cults, new age, etc(use the name).
Many religious organizations and people use Jesus and even call themselves christians (some are some aren't).
Jesus had most of His problems with "religious folk" (not God's
people).
Jesus shed His blood on the cross(no other way or truth).

Some different Christian denominations, with links to various sites:
http://www.religioustolerance.org/int_rel9.htm
The answer to what makes them different, from a non-Christian's point of view, is: Mostly what seem to be minor points of doctrine. You could spend years investigating them all, much less compiling a system to keep them all straight. But good luck trying. :-)
Oh, and here's a site that has already made up comparison charts of some of the different denominations and their beliefs:

The main branches of Christianity are :
Roman Catholic,Orthodox,and Protestant.
Under Protestant, you have a whole lot of denominations like Lutheran,Anglican and Presbyterian.
All of them are Christians, but they differ on various things, sometimes greatly:For example, the difference between Catholics and Protestants.
Mormons, although they say they are Christians, actually believe quite a lot of unbiblical things.
