Jesus could have come down from the cross at any moment He
chose, but He didn't.

Nobody TOOK His life, not the Romans soldiers, not the Jewish religious leaders....Jesus laid it down by His own accord out of His love for you and me...
He saw EACH and EVERY one of us as He was hanging on that
cross, after being scourged and beaten all night, and THAT is what kept Him on the cross -- and NOT the huge nails that the Romans used to put Him there.
Please read Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22. which tells in prophetic detail what Jesus came to do for us.
