I've iced them and rested them a few days. They are still sore I would like to soak them in a hot bath, any reason why I shouldn't?

A hot bath would be good. It relaxes muscles and actually speeds nutrients to the muscles.

In my opinion, you shouldn't add too much distance at once in a running routine as you risk injury that way. Distance should be gradually added a little at a time. If done once a week or so consistently, you should be at your desired distance in no time. I learned this the hard way a few years ago, developed plantars fascaitis (sp?) and was off my feet for about four months. Whenever I gradually added distance, I always remained injury free.

First off no pain no gain is a myth. You will just hurt your self if you strain. If your muscles are sore the worst thing you can do is soak them in warm water. The warm water will make it worse. It will cause your muscles to swell even more. just like a bruise. If you have been taken warm showers, then applying a cold compress will do no good. If i work out and feel sore i take a shower with the coldest shower i can take until the soreness goes away. Hope this helps

No I think that would actually be better for them. I have lifted weights several times. I cant stay focused but when I go awhile with out lifting and then lift pretty heavy my muscles get so soar that I cant even extend my arms. I soak in a hot bath and that helps loosen the muscles up.
