The people of this world have yet to evolve to a point that allows them selves to discuss religion or any other controversial subject without verbally attacking the other. Each believes that they hold the only truth and that they have the right to inflect their beliefs on everyone else. They don’t have the intelligence to hold a debate they take it as an attack, it has been that way for as long as man has stood on this earth. When we learn to challenge others in a positive debate on our personal beliefs, and they can except that we have the right to believe until it is proven otherwise and that they have the same right to not believe then we will have reached the point of truth. It does not matter what you believe in or not it is your own belief or not and is only for you and others that believe or not in the same theory. It’s all about faith, if you’re a christen then you have faith that there is a God, and if your not a christen then you have faith that there is not a God. This holds true for every controversial subject that hasn’t been proven yet. What’s wrong with people understanding things that are as simple as this, why do people have to defend what has no proof and that means either side, why do people not live their own life’s and leave others to live theirs, it really is as simple as that, isn’t that what the American dream is all about?

I make it a point of never firing until I've been fired upon -- and sometimes not even then. "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar" is one way to put it. So is the Christian phrase that "A soft word turneth away wrath".
Personally, I think that all religions are valid paths to God (if God even exists, which I deem to be unprovable). Therefore I have no reason to blast anyone else's choice of religion, unless they start interfering with my right to practice my own, or start spreading lies about my faith.
And I agree that if more people just focussed on being ethical, honorable, and compassionate, regardless of their religion or lack thereof, the world would be a much better place for it. If you're behaving in that manner, I don't need to know what religion (or not) you are. I'll just count you as a good human being to know.

What you believe directly effects the manner in which you respond to me and to everyone else around you, near and far. If what you believe has an adverse impact on me or those I care about, you darn well better know I'm coming after you and your beliefs! And unfortunately, that which is most likely to have that adverse impact is your religious belief, whether you're Christian, Muslim, Jewish or whatever. Therefore I will not refrain from blasting your beliefs when they come into conflict with mine! I am ethically and morally required to defend myself and those who matter to me. You simply have to deal with that.

I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with people holding religious beliefs different than mine (I'm an atheist). What I have a problem with is people attempting to force their religious views on me, and religious doctrine that I believe is actually harmful to the person and society as a whole; for example, creationism, and fundamentalism of any sort.
I also believe that religious beliefs should be no more "protected" than a person's political or scientific beliefs. And all should be open to rational, reasonable discussion.

Me, personally I don't tend to "blast" other peoples religions. But as a Christian, I am commanded by Jesus to share the gospel. That's all I do is share....I don't go on and tell them how I think they're wrong. I don't even bring up their beliefs because it's not my business. It's God's job to change their hearts not mine. I have many friends with other religious backgrounds and we all get along great. We share our faiths with one another and no one gets offended because no one is pushy. It even says in the bible that if you share the gospel and they reject it, then leave them alone about it. God doesn't want us shoving Him down people's throats. That just pushes them away.

I agree with you regarding being good, ethical and moral. Though I have to admit to having argued against others' religious beliefs. I think I enjoy the debate sometimes. In most instances though, I'm trying to see the other point of view. I find it fascinating to explore others' beliefs and why they believe what they believe. I like to know what motivates them and how they think. It's just really interesting.

It's the political aspect of religion, if religious people were content just believing what they wanted to and going about their business it would be okay but instead they lobby Government and try to get their particular faith-based beliefs enshrined in legislation ...that is going too far, that's when I care what people believe and so should you.

I had a problem involving born again Christians giving my children pamphlets about how they will go to hell if they do not "get saved". I was (and still am), outraged. Someone explained it to me- they truly, honestly believe it is their duty to "save" as many people as possible. Anyone who is not "saved" is going to hell.
I couldn't disagree more, but I think in their minds, they are doing what God wants them to do. I just ignore it now. They'll never stop shoving it down our throats, so why fight it? Just say, no thank you, and walk away. It's the only way to avoid the endless "saving".

I think I am concerned for others out of compassion. Not my compassion but the compassion that the Lord has put in my heart. My main concern is that all people everywhere would get to know the love of Jesus.
