Dandruff is not dry scalp loose skin flakes as once thought but actually caused by a virus.A safe and very effctive home treatment is: Mix 2tablespoons of Brown Vinegar(the white not as effective for all the good minerals etc has been distilled out of it) the Brown can be found at all health food stores. @ Tablespoons in 1/2cup of lukewarm water and saturate the scalp and hair including in back of the ears and leave it on. Vinegar has been used since the age before even the Romans to kill bacteria and viruses and it is not toxic. Do this once a day until the dandruff is gone. After the dandruff is gone can use as a after shampoo rinse but sufficient to use 2 tablespoons in a cup of water. The vinegar smell will go away in approx 5-10minutes. It works for I have used it esp when I workout or jog and sweat tends to activate the virus and dandruff and it always gets rid of the dandruff. If he's going to school am sure hes being teased for kids are quick to notice and can be cruel. The parents or a responsible adult need to supervise, help him do this.

If it's serious, you may need a physician's help.
Here's a pre-shampoo treatment to try.
1/2 cup olive oil
10 aspirin tablets, crushed fine
Combine the oil and crushed aspirin and mix well. Massage the mixture into the scalp for 2 to 3 minutes. Leave it on the scalp for another 5 minutes. Rinse with cool water for a least 1 minute. Shampoo as usual and rinse well.
Here's a dandruff rinse to try.
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup fresh or 1 tablespoon dried mint leaves
1 cup boiling water
Place the vinegar and mint leaves in a ceramic bowl. Pour the boiling water over the mixture. Allow the mixture to cool completely, and then strain out the mint leaves. Apply the remaining solution to the scalp as a final rinse after shampooing. Rinse with cool water as a final step.

My nephew does too! The dermatologist said to use Nuetrogena T Gel Shampoo and it has really worked. Also if he has any skin issues there is an over the counter wash and lotion that are great called CeraVe.

Hi, girl. Let me b frank, i once had this problem. But now its totally gone. All you do is rub your nephews hair with coconut oil and massage it throughly. It realy helps. Then leave the hair for about 30 - 40 minutes depending on how serious it is. You can get bottled coconut oil in any grocery shops.

You might want to see what he is eating and drinking. I would suggest he drink more water and avoid carbonated sodas, sugary drinks. These items along with a shampoo for thick hair should do the trick.
