Hearing voices in children is sometimes used as a coping mechanism to deal with stressful and traumatic events such as home and school environment, death of a loved one or any other event where the child does not know how to cope. Some children have imaginary friends they can hear and see. Is there schizophrenia in the family? Typically, schizophrenia is not diagnosed until late teens early twenties, but some cases involve children as young as five. I would not jump to any conclusions though, this is extremely rare. Take the child to a therapist who specializes in child and adolescent psychology to have him or her evaluated. Again this could stem from a lot of different situations.

It depends on what the voices are saying. Seriously though, schizophrenia isn't supposed to manefest until late teens or early 20's in men. Here is a link for you.

What are they saying?The 9 year old may have a problem and need a psychiatrist or it could be what it is.

Go to a Dr. right away. It could be anything from a vivid imagination to schizophrenia. You need to know.

Whoa that's spooky. If it were my kid, I would get them into a psychiatrist to make sure they are not sckitsophrenic or something.
