The Sikh religion has many festivals and celebrated days such as vaisakhi april 13th (sikh new year), diwali in late october/early november, lohri in january (celebrates the birth of children and newly married couples). rakhi in august (tieing a sacred thread on brothers arm to protect him and help him to do well in life and protect his sister/mother through life) only girls tie rakhi on brothers. We celebrate the birth of our 10 gurus which varies throughout the year depending on the indian calender.

The Sikhs believe you should live a honest, trustworthy life. You should pray regularly and not harm others including yourself which means you should not destroy hair on your body at all, no shaving or cutting hair on any part of your body, to be a true sikh you should abide by the 5 K's which are wearing the kara (a steel bangle), keeping uncut kesh (uncut hair), wearing a kirpan (sword), wearing the kachera ( long under garment shorts), wearing a kanga (comb in hair). That is why many people wear turbans to keep their head covered at all times, it is believed that god is every where and in everone and in everything, it is a sign of respect to god always These combined with meditation, prayer and thinking good for all others, believing that god is one and respecting all other religious beliefs is the way of life for a sikh person. they should get up early before sunrise and bathe and meditate. they should not take alcohol/ drugs/ tobacco/ meat.
