Hello all. I have a question for someone with experience on hair problems. When I was younger and had bangs, I had a cow lick at the corner of my bangs. Since then, my hair has grown out and my bangs are no longer here. I was thinking of maybe getting my bangs backs, cut a little past my eyebrows, but my mother advises against it because she thinks my cowlick is still there. I insist it's not, but I could be wrong. Main question: Do cowlicks go away?
And if the answer is no, can normal styling help fix it? (Like blowdrying the bangs and using mouse and whatnot)

Also, I want to be able to actually STYLE style it. Ya know, like curling the bangs inward a bit instead of just having them lay flat.

Welcome to the Cowlick Club! Girl, I'm 46 and have had troubles with the poopy things as far back as I can remember. The best thing is styling products! They don't have to be any expensive ones either, just department or drugstore stuff... It's amazing the difference they make! As long as you are willing to put the effort it, and figure out what products and methods work well with your cowlick and your hair, you can "lick" the problem.
First of all, you won't know how the cow is until you cut your bangs. Those little suckers can hide out for years; I know, I grew my hair long and kept it that way, got it layered and bangs cut - and the little puppy was there! However, the best thing is to talk seriously with the person who cuts your hair (doesn't have to be a fancy-schmancy salon, just a discount place is fine), explain, point out where it was, and she will watch it as she cuts it.
With a little mouse, then a little gel, a blow dryer and a curling iron, it's amazing what you can do. Also, depends where exactly the cowlick makes your bangs fall, you can use the upward sweep of the cowlick to your advantage when you blowdry and curl.
Good luck - it's worth a shot!!!
This is coming from a girl who used to have her bangs taped down with scotchtape when she was young... yeah, really pretty!

No they do not go away. The reason is that it is just the way your hair grows that is causing the problem, so if you had it before, your mother is right you still have the problem. I wouldn't suggest playing with it If I were you. Styling gel may help and so may cutting your hair slightly on the longer side, but it will still spring up since it is the way the hair grows that is causing the problem. There is no guarantee that it won't still happen.
Cowlicks are simply where the hair grows in more of an up ward direction. Some people have what are called swirls where the hair grows in a circular direction there usually towards the back top of the head.

Yes cowlicks do go away and if for some reason yours comes back to haunt you then yes using mousse and blowdrying your hair is perfect. When my daughter was younger she had one and the only thing that helped was mousse and blowdrying. Hope this helps.

You will always have sin and the flesh to deal with as we live in a fallen world. Overcoming is a process not an event when you repent you grow closer to God. Yes it is impossible to conquer sin because you cant do this on your owns strength. Apart from Christ you cant do anything. Everyone fails. You need to be human to help others yes you make mistakes you fail you forgive yourself these are learning tools. There is no such things as saints and everyone sins at least once-HB God bless you for your honesty and willingness to want to change. E4G

Sorry to have to be the one to tell you this...archaelogists have discovered that cowlicks last for a long time. King Tut still has his and he's been dead for centuries. ;)
I say work with it. I comb my hair so my cowlick is right out there in front. I part my hair right down the center of those wayward strands.

Hi, I wouldn't worry if the cowlick was still there or not. There are plenty of gels, mousse's, shaping sprays, pastes and 50,000 other products that I'm sure could keep it under control. Good luck !
