i own a shop,ad usually if its a half ton it will haul a little over that amount,i wouldn't push it too much more unless it came with a heavy duty suspension on it,other wise the truck will haul more,but they rate them like this because this means its the safe amount that it can haul,that's why they do put a limit on how much to put in one,good luck,i hope this help,s.

there should be a sticker on the door frame telling you what the safe load rating is for your vehicle. if not , check the owner's manual
