The easiest way to help him until you get him to the vet tomorrow is to not feed him. You can let him drink, but the lack of food gives the g.i. tract a chance to rest.

Everytime any of my dogs have been sick, the vet has recommended a "bland diet" until the symtoms disappear. Bland diet consists of cooked ground beef, scrambled egg, white rice, and plain yogurt mixed together. Sounds gross but they love it and it really helps, but make sure you do not add anything but the following ingredients (that includes oils in cooking) to assure that it will not upset your puppy's stomach. This provides the dog with the nutrients they need (especially as pups) and will be much easier to keep down. If the problem lasts more than 24-48 hours after providing the dog with the bland diet, definitely consult your local veternarian because it is no longer just something they ate or a mild flu bug, it becomes more serious. Hope he feels better! =)

If it is just the once then I would give him nothing for 12 hours and then offer him small amounts of palatable and easily digestible food such as cooked chicken and rice
and feed him on small amounts of this for two days.
If he continues to vomit over the next 24 hours or develops any other symptoms I would contact a vet.
Hopefully though he has just picked up something he shouldnt have out on a walk and it will clear up by itself. If he wants to eat grass it will not do him any harm, it does not have quite the same effect on a dog as it does on a cat and many dogs eat it all the time whether they are sick or not. . i hope that helped

Pepto Bismol is Ok, but I prefer to give vanilla yogurt, the kind with the live active bateria to fix the digestive problem, not just treat the symtoms. Then I always just feed white cooked rice for a couple of day, Try the Pepto only if stools are really lose.

White rice will help as long as you are sure that everything is OK with the pup. You don't want to mask symptoms of something more serious by feeding white rice or similar - check with your vet, which it sounds like you're going to do anyway.
You can also use canned pumpkin *not pie filling* - plain unsweetened canned pumpkin will help your dog a lot. Also capsules of Slippery Elm powder, available at many health food stores.

Treat your puppy just like a kid that gets sick. You wait about two hours to see if he is going to throw up anymore. Then, if he doesnt, give him a LITTLE water, about 1/2 cup. Then wait again. about 1 hour. If he keeps that down, offer him about 1/4 cup of dry kibble mixed with 1/4 cup of cooked rice. Offer a small amount of water with it. Then wait. If he keeps that down, then he should be good for the rest of the night.
If he continues to get sick, then give him some ice cubes after he seems to settle down. If there is ANY blood in the vomit or the stool, IMMEDIATELY take him to the nearest animal emergency room. Or if he starts throwing up bile (green stuff) take him to the emergency room.

Don't let him have anything to eat until tomorrow. Just let him have water. Give his digestive system a rest. Give him some lovin. He'll probably look for something to help ease his stomach, like eat grass, or lick the carpet. But unless you talk to the vet you really shouldn't give him anything.

a puppy can dehydrate very quickly, so i wouldn't reccomend fasting. try the hamburger and rice. brown about a lb of hamburger. mix it with about 2 cups cooked rice. feed very small meals. 2-3 hrs apart, and make sure he gets plenty of water. and make sure he's drinking it. get him to the vet tomorrow. get a stool sample for the vet. even if it's very loose. could be a parasite. anything you can give your vet will help with the diagnosis. good luck

I agree with Marna- pepto bismol is safe for pups/dogs. I work at a pharmacy and the pharmacist has two black labs that are like her kids- she gives them peopto when they have upset stomachs and 7-up. Make sure to let him keep drinking so he doesn't dehydrate.

Pepto Bismal, give him about a 1/4 of a teaspoon, and plenty of water.Trust me it will not harm the pup at all.I give it to my dogs all the time, especially when they get the runs, and occasionally upset tummys!
