I had to go to the doctor because of a urinary track infection and he said one of causes was because I had been drinking to much water. Sometimes I drink 8, 8oz's a day or sometimes 6. I start drinking my water at appox. 4:00pm until 8:00 pm. Just curious if anyone else has heard of this?

Hi Joy. Eight glasses of eight ounces of water per day is NOT too much and NOT dangerous (assuming it is your only water intake and you are not exercising intensely or in very hot weather - in which cases it would not be enough!)

Water intoxication can kill, but it requires massive amounts of water intake within a few hours.

I have never heard or seen any scientific evidence that a urinary tract infection can be caused by a reasonable water intake. Ask your doctor for copies of the scientific studies! (and watch him/her get all flustered!).

Best wishes and good luck.

P.S. you may want to find a doctor that will work with you to determine why you got the infection.

I've never heard of this but all the push for drinking 8 - 8 oz glasses of water a day is not true. We get a lot of fluids through other foods we eat. Too much water can also be fatal. A woman in Seattle recently died from drinking too much water as part of a radio contest to see who could drink the most water and hold it the longest. The DJs were fired and her family has filed a civil lawsuit against the station.
