Hi I am doing a report for school and was wondering why is the age so low in most other countries but so high in the USA? My teacher specifically asked that we compare ourselves to other countries.

The United States is one of the ONLY countries that has the drinking age set at 21 (legally). I am a military brat, growing up overseas, and on the bases it was 21 (US soil), however, I believe we could "drink" at 18...at least some of us did.
Most places are over 16 (such as Poland, Spain, Turkey), some dont even have an age (China, Thailand)...
Whatever the ages, always in moderation!
AND NEVER drink and drive, no matter how old you are or how many you have had, one is ALWAYS too many.
(I dont care who you are)

i'm sixteen (almost 17) from the united kingdom. I first have been given decrease than the impression of alcohol while i became almost sixteen, i in basic terms do it on particular events like christmas, new twelve months, birthdays etc. i do no longer in basic terms randomly circulate out interior the week. i think of 18 to drink interior the united kingdom is extra or less good simply by fact this is around the time while people prefer to drink and have exciting so that's the suited age. i do no longer think of it encourages us to drink youthful than us of a, 14/15 twelve months olds will drink anyplace no remember what the legal age is. i do no longer think of it makes a distinction.

Its 21 for both drinking and purchasing alcohol in the US; although, some states do not ban underage consumption. Most other countries the drinking age is lower with the purchasing age at the same age or little higher. Some countries it is illegal to both consume and buy alcohol.

The US government gives incentives to states for keeping the drinking age limit at 21. If they lower it, they would lose 10% of the federal highway fund

Because lobby groups like MADD and SADD have think a 21 year old drinking age will reduce DUI.
Canada still allows its provinces to set their drinking ages. Ontario has a drinking age of 19. I believe Quebec still has it at 18 but I'm not positive on that.............

Reply to your teacher since the driving age is the USA is changing does that mean the drinking age will to. You deserve an A for your effort for your findings and she needs homework also. Maybe you can ask her if she / or he will fund your travel to get true results.
