Until recently "global warming" was an inconvenient term for environmentalists, because any case of unusual cold, or unusually strong storms could not easily be blamed solely on "global warming caused by man"

"Climate change" is a brilliant way to be able to use ANY unusual case of weather as "proof" of man's destruction of the environment. Hot or cold, flood or drought, hurricanes, tornadoes, all are now "climate change" events which can be used by the environmentalists to get more donation money.

Even more conveniently, the climate is constantly changing. The only unusual thing would be if the climate remained exactly the same from year to year. Since the climate is always changing, it is even easier to find cases to exploit for political purposes.
