Even though each state varies greatly in their homeschooling laws, it's pretty across the board that the credits you earn at home will not transfer easily back in to the public system, unless you use a program that is accredited by your state education agency (and not just accredited by one of the thousands of accrediting programs out there) AND is recognized by your state education agency.
I think it is easier to transfer credits in states where homeschooing is closely regulated by the state.
But since your question was only about your public credits transfering to homeschooling, yes, you can do that easily, just request a copy of your transcript from your school when you un-enroll.
Your best bet would be to take your questions to www.hslda.org
They have laws for each state, plus contact information for homeschool groups in your state that can answer your questions.
Where I live, it would not be wise to talk to the school district about homeschooling, but that may apply in Wisconsin. But to make sure you have the absolute best info, check HSLDA.
I included the info about transfering BACK to public school because it never hurts to know all angles of a situation before you make a decision on where you want to pursue your education.

You shouldn't have to start all over. I don't know what state you live in and each state has different standards for homeschooling. Sometimes you have to or would want to join a homeschooling organization. They have people who can answer your question. Try looking for the Department of Education for your state online. Then have your family call a local homeschool group. Again, guidelines vary by state but I wouldn't think you would start all over going from school to homeschool. If you are going from homeschool to school, that school might choose to not accept your homeschool credits.

Depends on what state you live in. But I would think that you just keep adding credits. That would be really lame if you had to start over.

It depends on the school system. I was home schooled through a private program, but my brother was home schooled through the LA Unified School District. They have a special program for home-schooled students and he got to keep his credits. I would look and see if your district has a home-schooling program (or independent study program it's sometimes called), and see what it takes to get enrolled. The people there should be able to tell you for sure, but if it's the same district, I can't imagine them not giving you credit for the classes.

No...your school would mail your transcripts to the homeschooling facility, and you'd get credit for most of them...with the program I went through driver's ed., rotc, and some others like that were not accepted for credit.

You'd keep adding onto your credits. However, if you were to move back into the school system, they might not accept the credits you earned as a homeschooler, depending on how you earned them.

You would add on to your credits. So make sure you keep a record of everything you do, so you know how much credits you get when you complete something,

It depends on the state you live in and your county school board rules. I'm sure you won't have to start over. In Florida you don't earn credits for being home schooled.
Check with the county school board first. Good Luck and don't put off your education.

That greatly varies.
My homeschool program, Keystone (www.keystonehighschool.com) will accept the credits from your current school... and many homeschool programs will. Some won't, however... so you have to do some research before you pick out a homeschooling program.
